  • clock spring assembly-air bag light

I have a friend with an 02 and the airbag light will not go out. The dealer says it can probably be fixed with the clock spring assembly replacement which is pricey. Anbody have any ideas he can try before going with the almost $300 repair?

I had the same problem. It turned out to be the connector under the driver's seat. We cleaned it and re-set the connectors. All has been fine since.

I also had this same problem. Mine was also a bad connector under the driver's seat. Lincoln/Mercury dealer repaired. Cost was $140.00. No problem since.

My airbag light pulses on and off a few times , then stays on. Any way to diagnose where the problem is coming from before doing the clock spring?

clock spring is not the end of the world, read the old posts .. it seems that repairs in general are a lot cheaper then when these were newer cars for example COPs..

I would try cleaning the connector contacts under the drivers seat first. If that's not it then bite the bullet and get it fixed. I should be covered under a ESP warranty but you'll still have to pay the deductable. Something you hope you never need, but it could save a life. Leroy

You might be able to buy a complete steering col cheaper than a clockspring. Old steering wheel cols go for approx 125, and they are complete with clockspring.

I do that for GM products all the time.
