There is current discussion about what to use to remove the hub cabs from the wheels of our birds. It is working it's way into a discussion about something else and I thought it warranted its own thread.
I thought a brake drum adjusting tool (brake spoon) would work well and after searching I found that Yelobird2002 confirmed that back in 2004.
I found this rusty old snub nose pliers that work perfectly. It fits easily into the opening and pops the cap beyond the tension spring holder in one simple smooth motion. I put a piece of cloth between it and the wheel so there is no metal against metal. In my opinion if I took the time to dunk the handles into that rubberized paint for handles (blue of course) it would be a perfect tool for the job.
