It really is true that we have Four Gentle Seasons, one way the Chamber of Commerce promotes our small town in Southwest New Mexico. What they don’t say is that they come and go in similar fashion to the cars in tonight’s race, bumping, banging, and turning each other around. When we heard the school bells ringing, the leaves turning yellow, and the chilies turning red, we were sure autumn had arrived and we were ready for the porthole look of the hard top being on. About two weeks later on a day when I had won at paper, stone, scissors and got to drive Sonrisa, our 2003 Desert Sky Blue t-bird, I came out of my office in the afternoon to a beautiful low 80’s day. I look at our smilemaker and asked myself, “What is wrong with this picture?” A quick 6 minutes and 47 seconds after getting home the porthole went on the shelf, the soft top was booted up, and we did the honorable thing in gratitude for a beautiful day—cruise Main.
