  • Hard Top On for the Winter

Did it this morning. First time using the lift, it really was a one person job. Now I just hope I remember how it all goes together in the spring to take the top off.

Put mine on last weekend. My youngest son helped out, he is just big and strong enough this year

Re: Hard Top On for the Winter

I also just put the hardtop on (for the very first time since I have owned the car) In past years I have driven my '03 only during th e summer, driving a larger car in the winter. However having just retired and no longer with the "other" car, I will be driving the Bird until the 1st of January. Then it is in the garage while we are in Mexico until mid-April. Thus my question. . .living in Michigan and its winter snows, I did buy a new set of Michelin all seasons, but do I need some extra weight in the trunk?

I put the top on last weekend also. The patio furniture shares the same space. Let's just say when the top comes up from the basement, well it's a tight fit with all the blankets wrapped on and the off weight balance to carry. It went well and I now have a new car to look at and show off. {people at work have ask if I bought a new Bird)Northern Wisconsin received 2 Plus inches of snow last night. I'll go until the first snow and salt until I store until spring. That will be hard as it is my everyday driver.

Our top is staying off until we get back from the Central Florida Poker Run on Nov. 7th.

Re: Hard Top On for the Winter

Too soon to put the hardtop on yet, even in New Jersey.

Went to a carshow today with my Galaxie with the top down. Didn't feel cold even on the highway.

Decent weather/temperatures predicted for this week in Jersey. Might get one or two more trips with the top down.

I usually put the hard top on first week in November. But, since I'm now retired, the car is garaged, and I don't take her out in snow or rain (that's what the 94 TBird is for), I'm wondering if I should even put it on.

+1 on keeping the top of all year. It's garage kept, not driven in snow, or is a daily driver.

Jerry, you and I have the same problem. My 2002 gets stored with first snow. My wife's is a 1996 T-Bird which has been the everyday driver(87000 Original Miles). WELL, it has just been touched up as far as minor paint on the door frames and rockers. It looks like it's going to be a long winter seeing as Cheryl retired in June. Now her bird will not be driven as much this winter if any. Looks like my 2003 F-250 will be the vehicle of choice this winter.

I usually wait until the first week of November before I put the hardtop on, but it got cool here early so I put it on a couple of days after returning from Choo-Choo. I love the way the car looks and drives with the hardtop on. I have more fun driving it as a convertible, but it sure is quieter and smoother with the hardtop on........and ya gotta love those portholes!

The top went of Election Day last year and again this year. One of my brothers was here so on it went. Sort of sad though as it is going to get to 60 deg tomorrow and can’t get in the last top down ride. Love the change in the look with the Port Holes though.

Oh, I am SO sorry for all of you who are facing the task of putting on the hard top, or worse, storing your Bird for the winter.
We in Florida are coming into our high season of cruising (top down) now that the heat of summer has passed. On Saturday, we will usher in the new cruising season at our cruise/caravan/poker run. Three dozen colorful BIRDS in an upbeat parade making a spectacle of ourselves over a 25 mile urban & rural route. Turquoise fender flags on all the cars will make it impossible to ignore us.

Mine went on the last sunday in October, definitely a two man job. The little plastic strips to prevent scratching are still a cheesy fix.
