    Re: Steering Wheel Position

    Treken:
Same thing happened to me today. I went to start the car up & it hiccupped...then the steering wheel stopped moving automatically. I restarted the car, but now no matter what I do, the wheel does not move.

The dealer put a brand new battery in this past March 2009. Anyone have any ideas how to reset the automatic movement when you start it up and turn it off????

    thanks!

It has happened again today for the third time and have to do it manually. Is there a reason for this or does anyone know an easy fix. I searched and could not find a thread on this subject.

It happened again once since I posted and I am thinking it is something to do with cold weather, I am probably wrong, but it a cold day when it does not work for me. Never noticed this in summer months, Just before I stop driving it in the winter, and in the spring.

        Hi Steve,
I Cant help but think the battery will not solve this problem ..But my "Spider Senses are Tingling" This car has a lot of dependency on a Good battery and next spring I will have to get a new one just for my own peace of mind on my next trip out of town.

I have experienced this as well but I believe that it has more to do with the steering wheel locking mechanism. If your wheels aren't completely straight turn the key off then you turn the wheel in the direction to straighten them out (although it won't move much) and hold it there and then turn you ignition on it should release the locking mechanism.

At least so far that has worked for me.

            Gord:

You might be on to something. The next day, it reset itself without my interference. However, since I moved it and drove a few cycles, the problem solved itself. I have no idea why or how. It might be the locking mechanism... as you pointed out.

            thanks
