When you get a "thumbs up" from half a dozen members of a Corvette club at the same time. Wave back and smile!

      Re: the awe factor

On local bypass yesterday , cruse set @ 60 , enjoying a great , warm , fall day , I slowly passed a beautiful , red '67 stingray . As I was wondering if it was an original or a great restoration , the driver , checked my bird out as I was checking him out , he grinned and gave me a thumbs up ! Couldn't wipe the smile off my face for 10 minutes .

Actually, I've heard, witnessed, and experienced the fact that people become quite upset when they see a car taking up more than one space. For that reason, I always try to park at a corner space in the parking lot, then only one side of the car is exposed. Moreover, corner spaces usually have more room on the other side. That's probably the best solution, because it helps prevent your car from picking up dings and "envy scratches."

          Re: the awe factor

I do the "corner" space also and park as far to the end as possible. But then the person that parks next to me thinks they have "more room" to swing their door open! I have just decided that I will not park anywhere that I cannot actually SEE my car for the entire time I am away from it.
But then again, the college kids across the street decided to play GOLF on the street in front of my house, at 3:00 am last Thursday. That's gonna cost me about $200 to get the dent out of my brand new Grand Caravan!
I guess we aren't safe ANYWHERE!

It seems the ones you care about most are the most succeptible to dings and dents.
For that reason I really protect the Bird, but I had a '92 Town Car that I parked anywhen I could squeeze it into for TEN years, and never got a door ding! Go figure!

A few years ago, I was at a car wash. Next to me was a guy in a Corvette. After looking at the bird for a few minutes, he gave me the thumbs up.

I've never figured that out myself, Bill. I've noted that on many hum drum cars in the parking lots but anything I drive gets them.

You take your Bird to a car wash?
I always firgured all the T-bird names and logos would get yanked right off.

Also, I kinda like washing it myself, but every once in a while...

When I use a car wash, I use a car wash that you use a wand and you wash your car yourself.

                        The awe factor........

My boss has 13 cars. I just bought the last one for him - Aston Martin DB9. The others in his collection are Mercedes SL550, Porsche Cayenne, Porsche 911, BMW Z8, Lamborghini Gallardi, Maserati Quattroporte, Ferrari (don't know the model)....etc. My point is -- the guy loves these high end cars.

When I pulled up in my recently purchased used, somewhat tattered Bluebird, he was positively intrigued and thrilled~! Every time I bring it to work, he will come into the office and comment on the car -- loves the color, great lines etc.

                        They truly are special vehicles!

I have one of those in my office. She particularly enjoys keying the more expensive luxury vehicles. I really abhor vigilante behavior.

I put the white hardtop on recently and now I notice heads turning again.

Not so much with the ragtop up. Ragtop down turns more heads.

                              Re: the awe factor

Lately, I've had to drive mine a lot more than usual (my old truck died). So, I pull in to get some gas. Chilly and raining. There's a guy next to me in a run down F150. He asks me if I want to race. I tell him that I really don't race anybody and that I think I might have a fair chance of winning anyway.
He then says, "we'll race cross-country - I have a big gas tank."
What exactly does this have to do with anything? I just tell him that he'd win that one for sure.
                              Very strange attention.

                                Re: the awe factor

I probably shouldn't admit this, but for one summer (1974) I drove a 1963 Karmann Ghia convertible that I bought for $25. I would look for the cars that were parked in 2 or more spaces and get that junker of a VW as close as possible to their driver side door. More than once I had to crawl out the top and across the hood. I never did any damage, that kind of behavior is not called for...ever. But I just got annoyed at how some people parked.
It takes all kinds I guess.
