  • Not Riding On Just Air Anymore!

Joined the nitrogen crowd the other day.

Purchased set(4) Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires last week while the $70.00 rebate was still good at Costco.

It is difficult to compare new tires to old tires, to say that the ride is smoother quieter and better road handling, well, that is to be expected.

Right now I am very pleased.

You do realizethat the $70 rebate is from Michelin and not Costco and good at any Michelin retailer, like your very hungry Ford dealer, but hey, you gots Nitrogen.

You're throwing your money away buying Nitrogen to inflate your tires. The Military Aircraft use it because of the exstreme temperature and pressure changes they go through. It's just another scam. Leroy

All the city buses here in Phoenix use nitrogen.

Re: Not Riding On Just Air Anymore!

I have had nitrogen in mine after getting new tires this spring and find they stay constant more than the 96 Tbird with new tires last year with air. I always seem to have to check them compared to the 02 with nitrgen.

It is getting to a point that their is very lttle difference from what some say but so is the price. From free to a few dollars a tire. I think I will use from the little difference I have seen. And maybe a good piece of mind not having a tire get too hot on a long trip as I did long time ago, and blow a belt...

I don't have an air compressor and it costs me every time I go to the gas station and get air in the tires in the 96 Tbird. I am not sure what costs more in this case.

Yes! the $70 rebate was Michlin's. Every tire seller offered it because it was a Michelin rebate. The hungrey Ford dealer was not hungry enough.
Bottom line out the door price here in WA State, Costco's price on these tires plus the Costco package for new tire purchase was the best.

The debate of nitrogen vrs air in tires is not the purpose of this thread.

Please take your comments to the all so many other posts that discuss this topic and continue to beat the dead horse further to death there.

Also if you knew anything about tire purchases at Costco you would know that one gets nitrogen in the tires whether one wants nitrogen or not. There is no preference.

With either air or nitrogen, I found driving with 30 PSI the best ride. Most of my driving is in town, not highway, so not looking to save a mile a gallon or two having a harder ride. Costs more to drive in town anyways...lol...

Smart move Mike. I've been using Nitro in the tires of my Bird for about two years. I swear I can feel a difference...is it just me?

I use helium in my tires, get huge gain in gas mileage due to lighter road contact. CONVERT!

Why do you selectively criticize Leroy? In case you didn't notice there was another person who has drunk the nitrogen coolaid who posted what a great idea nitrogen was. Does that meet the purpose of this thread as far as you are concerned?

I think I understand...the purpose of this thread is anything that agrees with what you did, and nothing that points out the total lack of logic in the nitrogen profit center debate. I got it. Thanks.

Personally, I use a special gas which consists of approximately 78.09% nitrogen, 20.95% oxygen, 0.93% argon and 0.03% carbon dioxide. Works great. I find it gives me a great ride. I keep it stored in a small compressor in my trunk. As the oxygen leaks out (we all know that it will do that because the molecules are smaller than nitrogen [or are they bigger, I forget]) then the percentage of nitrogen increases slightly. Eventually I am afraid it will become 100% nitrogen and then I will have to open the tires up and let them breathe.
