Re: Tbird Jaguar S Type Engine Swap
I think the problem is how the computer talks to the two different engines and why we haven't seen others doing it by now. - they run on two different computer languages/systems - don't quite understand it myself but maybe Jim Youngs (retiredfordguy) could give you an insight on it.Limited Edition databases for 007 msg..#26 , PCR sticky, and Cashmere msg.#64

Re: Tbird Jaguar S Type Engine Swap
I asked Jim that question in reverse, he mentioned the same thing Dot said, and told me because of that I would also have to swap out most of the electrical components as well as the transmission and rear end. Now I was inquiring about putting the super charged version of the Jag 4.0 in the Bird.

Re: Tbird Jaguar S Type Engine Swap
You're going to have more money and man-hours in the car than it's worth by swapping engines. Either find another Jag engine or rebuild the one you blew. Leroy

Re: Tbird Jaguar S Type Engine Swap
I believe the Jag engine is smaller than 3.9, the bolt pattern might be the same, but the Jag pistons are smaller so the heads may be different. Leroy

Re: Tbird Jaguar S Type Engine Swap
....Here's some bits and pieces, Rick....Jaguar AJ-V8.....known as the AJ28 in the 2000 -2002 S-Type...It has 86mm bore and stroke...4.0L 3996cc c/w variable valve timing.....Then there is the AJ30/AJ35...3.9L 3934cc built in Lima OH engine plant...Bore is86mm stroke is 85mm. AJ35 introduced in 2003...with vvt, electronic throttle control..while the block, crankshaft and pistons, and connecting rods are all unique to this displacement, many other parts are shared with the AJ-V8 engines produced in the U.K. by Jaguar....Cheers!

Re: Tbird Jaguar S Type Engine Swap
What year is your wife's S-Type? How many miles? Early (prior to mid 2001 or 2002 I think, but I did not check for sure...) Jaguar V-8s had some known timing upper chain tensioner problems (the nylon/plastic tensioner facing would crack and then depart the tensioner) which could lead to exactly the problem (bent valves, etc) that you just experienced.
