My 03 came with only 1 key. After trying all methods of finding the original 2nd key I went to local Ford service dept. They estimated about $150 for new key and remote with programing.
I thought that was plenty but I needed it. When I went to pick it up I had to pay $150 and got a key and remote that weren't programed.
This it what they said.... Unable to program key and fob due to inability to access the security module. Reason for inability to enter module could be one of the following reasons: 1. security module access not granted through the instrument cluster, disabling self test of security module. 2. broken wires leading to pcm and security module. 3. connections on any of the terminals leading to or from the module could be damaged or broken.
In shop wires were checked at diagnostic controller plug , voltages were OK , but did not go further into the inspection of wires ,or removing cluster for further diagnostics.
Estimate time ...at least 4 hours...$280.00 for tracing through wires and cluster removal.
They also said the cluster with module would cost over $ 350.00.Alot of money for 1 key.
Is there any way to bypass the security system and eliminate the programmed key? They said I could dig the chip from my only key and glue it by the switch.
Any Ideas ?.....................Thanks ,John
