On last week's Motor Week, Pat Goss recomended an engine flush at about 40K. My bird has 45K. Any thoughts on engine flushes?

I concur - regular oil & filter changes will keep the motor "innards" clean. Engine flush is only for people who change their oil maybe once in every five years, and the oil has turned into black tar...........

As often as most of us change our oil I think this is just a profit maker for the dealer etc. With 55,000 miles, my dip stick is CLEAN even getting close to a 5,000 mile oil change. I agree as long we the engine has been taken care of like most of us do it is not needed. Same with radiator flush, There is a milage rating on the anti-freeze in the book.

Power Flush & Prime for Engine Oil Systems
The BG PF12 Power Flush & Prime for Engine Oil Systems injects a safe, effective cleaner into the oil system. The engine is run for 15–30 minutes during the procedure. Sludge and deposits which are the result of thermal breakdown of the engine oil by the high temperatures of heavy stop-and-go driving, are removed from the cleaning solution as it is pumped through the BG PF12 filtration system. This ensures that there will be no plugging of the engine oil system. As the piston rings are cleaned, engine compression improves, which increases power and improves fuel economy.
When the cleaning process is completed, the cleaning solution and any residual oil are air-blown from the engine. Then engine oil and BG MOA®, a superb lubricant and highly effective deposit control conditioner, are injected back into these air-blown areas to ensure instant lubrication at start-up. A new oil filter and the balance of the engine’s capacity of oil are then installed.
