I refused to drive a dignitary once in my 64 Galaxie.

He wanted to sit on the boot.

Sorry, replacement parts for 64 Galaxies are tough to find.

He decided to walk, and I drove my car in the parade anyway.

        You guys are too much!!!

At least we are all having fun with the variety of posts that have apppeared. Hard to tell who is serious and who is spoofing. Rusty, so far, you make the most sense.

        Thanks for all the laughs.

I will tell you what I decide. I worked on it a bit this aftrernoon and may have figured it out with multiple blankets, pillows, pieces of cardboard, etc. I am going to extreme to protect the ribs in the soft top. I think that I have it nailed. At least it feels secure under my butt. I am dying to see how much my passenger weighs.

Of course, if I get to drive Miss Orlando, who cares what happpens to the soft top. Oooops, I almost just made a double meaning remark . . .

Decorating the car has been more fun - that was easy. Yes, I will share pictures after the parade.

Are seat belts not mandatory in Florida ? So some big lump sits on the back and falls off, now who's insurance will cover that if not a law-suit. Just a thought,

Re: Need help. How do I carry a parade dignitary?

All three of our T-birds have been used in Christmas, Xmas (not holiday) parades. On top of the vert top (in the down position) and underneath the soft boot, we have put blankets and pillows. This makes for a firm cushion for the beautiful butts of the beautiful young ladies that sit up on the soft boot. We even had the Mayor (not so beautiful) of our small town ride on the soft boot.

No damage done. We'll do it again. After all the Bird is just car.

I garbage picked some cushions off a sofa on the curb. I then carved them to fit the space between the boot and the top. I wrapped all this in duct tape so that I can just drop it in when needed. Must be that PCR's just love a parade!

Is there some kind of demerit system in place at TBN for that kind of loose commentary?

Since I'm the TBN agitator, I knew that my statement that the T-bird was just a car would not be received very well. Amazing how simple statements will draw responses.

Re: Need help. How do I carry a parade dignitary?

                        Tom,
First off, I have the aftermarket boot for my car; not the original. On 2 occasions, I have padded the void under the boot with blankets or quilts just enough to give them a little support, requesting that they keep their bulk of weight on the froward edge.
To prevent the person of honor from getting that feeling of falling backwards, I have taken a nylon web shoulder strap from a piece of luggage and hooked it to the passenger seat "baby carrier anchors" for them to hold on to. The strap cannot be seen by the viewers of the parade. A medium to large dog leash or a leather belt would suffice, but the black shoulder strap has been fine for my application. With the passenger seat all the way forward, the person sitting on the back and their feet on the shelf works fine.

In the latter parade, other retrobird owners were able to use theirs as well. This kind of stuff is what these cars were made for. You just have to be creative.

Texasbird - - - Thanks for your post and the explanation of how you rigged the Bird to carry a parade rider. I knew that I had it right. That is what I finally ended up with yesterday after trying a couple of other alternatives. Great minds work the same . . . . aren't we clever!!

I am looking forward to Saturday morning for this event to honor all veterans. There is always a HUGE turnout for this parade in Orlando. This is the first time that a Thunderbird has been invited to participate. In the past, only Chevys & Pontiacs were permitted. Perhaps I have broken new ground.
