Need help. How do I carry a parade dignitary?

I've been invited to carry a dignitary in my Bird in the annual Veteran's Day parade in Orlando on Saturday. Well, truth be known, I think that it is MY RED CAR that was invited, more than it was me, the driver.

It is a BIG event lasting 2 hours through downtown. I will be towards the front of the line-up with a politician, or a disabled vet, or the head of one of the local Veteran's organizations.

My question is: How do I carry my passenger? Even if I considered putting him up on the boot, where do his legs go since there is no back seat?

My driver seat can be brought way forward almost up to the steering wheel creating a space for somone to stand behind it. However, the passenger seat is not designed to go that far forward, so there is not enough room for someone to STAND on the floor. I was hoping that he could stand on the passenger side and hold on to the head rest. But there is not sufficient room to stand because the seat only goes forward part way.

If he sits up on the boot (I would have to somehow reinforce it to support his weight), maybe he could put his feet on the little shelf behind the seats. Do you think so? I sat up there and was NOT comfortable.

Any suggestions?

Personally I would make him sit in the seat. Since the top will be down folks will still see him. I've thought about this myself for some of our local parades.

I was invited to put my car in a parade last year.

At the formation point the organizer wanted to sit the lady up on my boot and I said, "no way". I explained that there is no support for a person up there and the only way for her to ride would be seated in the passenger's seat.

That was not well received as others were sitting on the top of the back seat in Mustangs and a couple of other convertibles with back seats.

I insisted on my rules, so I ended up with another passenger.

I did not get invited back to the parade this year.

Rick, I think I would have suggested the person just walk next to the car. Like you said, your cars, your rules.

I would suggest, that you put the Passenger seat as far back as possible, They sit in the seat, then with a protective cover, let them hold the windsheild to stand their if they desire. They can wave from the seat just fine. Also you could put telephone books in towels on the seat, so they a propped up. If they don't want to do that, get a different passenger.

The previous owner put mine in the Memorial day parade a couple of years ago, it is cold in Wisconsin in May, so the hard-top was on yet, and magnetic signs on the doors touted the dignitary...

...put the hard-top on!

Tom,on the serious side. my friend with the '63 Chevy Conv. who is in a lot of parades suggests that you place a piece of plywood wrapped with a furniture pad on top of the folded top and push the passenger seat all the way up. If you need a pad or two he would be more than happy to lend them to you.

If your rider is on the small side, you can remove the headrest of the passenger seat, and they can perch on the top of the seatI

CARTOY has only carried one dignitary in a parade, he was rather large, and I insisted he sit in the seat.

Hey Tom, it depends on who your passenger is.

Politician..............Use Rusty's idea.
Beauty Queen.......Anywhere she wants to sit. (hey, what's a little car damage?)
Disabled Veteran...Sit in passenger seat and let everybody along the parade route get
down on their knees and thank him!!!!!!!
