  • Has anyone replaced replaced cops?

I had a thought about the replacement cops we've put in our cars. Has anyone had to replace one that had already been replaced?

My first one went out at about 45K and I changed them all around 60K. I now have 90K and no problems, (knock on wood). I think the new ones are improved, but would find the answer very interesting.

I have had 10 or 12 cops replaced. Obviously some of them more than once, but frankly I did not keep score. With some of the dealerships I went to, this is hardly surprising. The last time they found that the prior dealer had used the wrong spark plug. Brilliant!

Joe: using the wrong plug could cause a failure, so that doesn't count.

I'm betting that very few, if any have had to replace replaced cops when properly installed.

we had one replaced at about 67K miles that had already been replaced sometime previous. George didn't pick up the paper work for the first 2 done so we don't know which ones were replaced first.

That may be the answer you want, but with 10 or 12 cops replaced, I would say the odds are that I have had the same cylinder cops replaced at least a couple of times.

Again, there may be other reasons: tropical storms, semi-flooded streets, no garage available, dumb mechanics, etc etc.

I have had no trouble since the last work done at a place that I feel is competent and under a service manager who is hands on. Too bad I have to drive 109 miles from my office to get there.

Two weeks before choo-choo dealer replaced all cops, spark plugs, as well as valve covers, gaskets, coil covers, gaskets, windshield wiper cover . All under warranty.Talking to the mech, that does all the Birds,he told me that two coils on the passenger side had been replaced before with non Ford parts . Coils weren't even labeled . He told me the new coils have a different part number and assumes they are a upgrade . He has not had any returns on the new numbers since the part number change .

We have had 6 replaced. Right now there are 3 differnet part numbers in the car. Another one is starting to act up. I have been running it without the covers since about June. No sign of any water getting on them at all.
