Ski, that sounds like me. I hate to get a clean car dirty, especially when it's something "special".
I live just north of Norrisville,MD in the Stewartstown,PA area. I have a nephew who lives on Rte 165 just south of St. Claire Bridge Rd. Gee, we're almost neighbors.

I recently got an e-Mail from a Belgium T-Bird owner, who is 6'10"

      DOES HE HAVE PICTURES?
      I don't need the headroom.
But would like to sit lower in the car!

          Re: Daily Driver ?

I've had two T-birds, a '02 which was only driven in perfect weather on weekends and a '03 which I drive every day, rain or shine. The car is great for either use. The tradeoff for driving it every day is that you get all the extra hours of enjoyment, but you have to deal with scratches, chips, and accelerated wear.
When I had the yellow '02 I drove my wife's old Mercury Sable on Mon-Fri. I kept that up for about two years, but the high mileage Merc starting giving trouble. I couldn't afford to keep the T-bird and have a really nice daily driver, so I sold both of them and picked up a Lincoln LS. I immediately missed the T-bird, but I convinced myself that I needed a dependable 4-door and kept it for a couple of years. Eventually I couldn't stand it any more and found the '03 that I have now. I'd rather drive it every day, were-and-tear or not, than do without my Thunderbird.

MidLifeBird, it would seem from your avatar, that the 'hair touching the roof' issue is not a problem for you..

              Don,

Daily Driver, I purchased my 03 with 22K miles on her and now she has 62K- about 30K in a little under 3 years. I live in the midwest so I see my share of weather changes. I'm 6 foot 1- with the hardtop no problem- with convertible top I lower the seat as much as I can and adjust the angle. Other than the normal COPS issue it has been great and it's fun to drive everyday.

DD here, 90,000+ miles, no major problems. Yes, the hardtop offers a bit more head room, but if the softtop is down, major headroom...

Now all you guys and gals can't be daily drivers. Where am I going to get another low mileage one when I wear this one out? Come on more polishing, less driving and for heavens sake, NO BAD WEATHER driving! please...

                    Re: Daily Driver ?

I think the best reasoning as to if you should make your TBird a DD is the type of work you do. I'm retired now so it makes no difference to me, but when I was working I always drove a pick-up truck. I was a welder and worked construction in Steel Mills and Oil Refinerys and had to leave my ride parked in a gravel parking lot with hundreds of other cars and trucks for 8 to 12 hours at a time. Easy pickens for thieves, I had to put a chain and padlock on my spare tire under my truck. Plus the dust and grit from not only the outside but what you bring inside from your cloathes. Not the vehicle you want to take your Wife out to dinner in that night. But even with a clean job, just the idea of driving the same car day in and day out and then the same car for a week-end away or a night out doesn't appeal to me. I would keep the Bird at home and drive a beater to work. Leroy

Well, I am a little bit taller than my daughter, who was seven when the picture was taken, but you are correct. At just over 5'-6" I'd have to grow my hair for a while to rub the roof on a T-bird or just about any other car. On a positive note, I still have a full head of hair and am pretty sure I could achieve that extra 'hair height' if I had to.

Ha ha, thanks for your good humoured response. There are a few of us that would find hair touching the roof a good thing, a sign that we've 'still got it' ! If you have the great times talking with your daughter on drives that I do with mine, it just adds to the joy that this car gives.
