            Re: Insulting comments

I get quite a few positive comments from older people when I drive it. I do know the younger generation could care less about it (kind of how I felt about inheriting my father's Mercury Marquis). They see it as an older persons car. They are into BMWs, Porches, Mercedes, as thieir dream cars.

Well, I'm only 30, and I love the things!
I have a copy of a marketing manual that Ford sent to the dealerships explaining how to sell T-birds to the target market, which was supposed to be empty-nesters and wealthy retired folks. Ford intended for the car to appeal to people who want to be noticed for their taste and class, not because they're driving something that screams 'look at me' like some sports cars or exotic luxury autos do.
Personally, I've loved T-birds and wanted a '55 or '56 since I was in elementary school, which probably explains why the first three new cars I ever owned were all T-Birds (83,84 & 90). When Ford came out with the retros I knew I had to have one. I bought my first one at 39 and the second one at 43, so I don't match Ford's demographics either.
As far as insults, I've never heard one about any of my T-birds. The closest thing to a negative comment is that several of my friends have said they like my black '03 better than my yellow '02, and none of them ever said anything bad about the '02 when I still had it.

Don't worry about it - put the top down, turn up the radio with good sounds, push down on the gas and SMILE. Nothing like it for making your day!

Dave, you are driving a v8 when you have the cash put a K&N Cold Air intake as well as Borla exhaust on your TBird you will love the sound and the new found power.
There are lots of owners here that have made threads about the K&N and Borla parts have a look and read there comments.
Your brothers Miata will never sound like V8 THUNDER.

I think this has more to do with the time of year than anything else. After all, this is when we all deck the halls and don our gay apparel.

Just out of curiosity, do you find you get most of these comments when either the soft or hard top is up?

                            I've always thought:
                            • The Retrobird with softtop up looks a bit odd and possibly a bit feminine.
                            • The Retrobird with hardtop on looks rich and sophisticated but definitely not tough.
                            • But the Retrobird with the top down oozes muscle car and just smokes anything else on the road...
It was designed to look like a roadster and that's where it really stands out above all others...gotta have the top down! I'd be surprised if you got comments like that with the the top down. (and would then suggest you paint that sucker black!)

                              Katpurz,

The comments are made when the rag top is up. I agree with your feelings about top down, hard top on, etc., and think I'd be hearing very different comments.
