    Re: Tips on winter storage

Took out the 02 this morning to fetch a latte, just a snow flurry or two. Then I got cold feet and garaged it, and took the daily-drive to work, because the forecast was for snow-showers this-aft. Good roll of the dice though, cause it's now snowing in America's Dairyland. Just hate the idea of trailing behind another car with road spray, or worse, road-salt spray...so far the salting crews have not been out, and I plan on T-Birding some more this weekend, forecast is for cold, 27-33 degrees--great weather for heated seats, which are sweet, bye the way! When the salt comes out, I will store it, unless we get a deep-freeze with crystal clear roads, out it will come! Oh, yeah, my storage technique? put down 3--4'x4' corragated white plastic sheets (they look just like corragated card-board), I always use Shell's premium gas 93 octane, and don't worry about fuel tank level, and battery tender, then cover it up with the T-Bird cover, all in a dry-walled attached garage.--Lindy

I took mine to work today and hope to tomorrow as well. It was wet this morning but not raining. Picked up my grandson at school just to drive a bit more. Got a couple of good comments at work this morning too, including 'classy ride'. A triple black with the hardtop on is too!

It is John. Have similar experiences here in NL every day.
Now that the hardtop is on for winter it draws a lot of attention because of the porthole. No other car around has that.

Thanks for all the comments/discussion. I've decided to store it. The garage has fire suppression, and is wired up to the police and fire departments. I can hook up a battery tender. I went and toured the place - they also sell collectors cars and their guy showed me an '81 Delorean DMC-12, as we walked by an 80s Lamborghini Countach, and this sweet 50-60s Jaguar roadster with pinstriping and a wooden flat panel dash, not to mention a whole slew of eldorados, corvettes, and older 30-40s cars. Have to get it in before the snow hits though or they might fill up. I'll see if I can take some photos - forgot to ask if they had an older T-bird they could park it next to to give it some company. I feel kind of sorry for the cars there though, my little T-bird is going to tell them how nice the winding roads are; whereas, many of the other cars have just been sitting there for years as "investment vehicles." Now to get an extension cord from the hardware store, and a battery tender at autozone.

The car being stored for the winter should be put up with a full fuel tank in order to prevent condensation forming on the inside of the fuel tank from the fluctuation of temperatures, from daytime, nighttime, or colder nights and warmer days. Tis was a practice that I followed with I had a boat sitting in the slip during the winter and it was not being used often. Never had water collection from condensation in the fuel tank that some owners had problems with.

Would it help if you loosened the screws and latches on the hardtop to let the rubber seals relax during winter storage? I did spray WD40 all around underneath the T-bird today and treated the seats with Griots Leather Car [ it does smell like real leather!]

WD40 ? Is that to keep the mice out of the car. ? Why WD40, I do not understand. It just dries up over short period of time.

I feel that it leaves a film that last longer than a few days. On aluminum, it keeps it from oxidizing . I get alot of humidity and moisture in my garage. Bottom line I guess anything helps and it is easy to apply.
