Re: Here's a real time machine
Never driven, never enjoyed and selling on ebay. If the owner paid a dealer premium beyond the sticker price, I'm afraid they'll really come up short. I would think that car should go the Barrett-Jackson or Mecum auction route if they hope to get any real money out of it.sigpic

They are out there, I think the collectors are starting to realize the market is a long ways off for the Retro Birds and are just trying to get back their investment.

Re: Here's a real time machine
this would scare me....unless you are gonna stick it back in a garage.....if you plan on driving it ..look at all the problems people have storing these for the winter......fuel pumps...seals ...bearings...rings etc....this stuffs been sittin for 9 yrs......@27k...for a brand new car...may not be too far out of line......but add $1300 for a warr.....could make it the car to buy....

So, the starting bid doesn't meet the reserve. Suppose the reserve is $30k and it sold for that, that's 39,995-30,000=9,995/39.5= he paid $253.04 per mile. Mine including estimated maintenance costs is about $0.47 per mile.PK- 2002 Premium Blue/Full Accent/Whisper White Top VIN#16336

Re: Here's a real time machine
I doubt they'll be "barn finds." Think about the vinyl (plastic) fifty years' hence. You know all that haze on the inside of your windshield on modern autos? It's from the plasticizers leaching out of the vinyl. Eventually the plasticizer will completely leach out and become depleted, then the vinyl trim, the seats on many cars, dashboards, etc. will crack wide open. Forget trying to keep your car as a garage princess, and drive it as it was meant to be!

Re: Here's a real time machine
Dave, you got a good point about the plastic and vinyl. There is a shelf-life on these things. But that was also true of the 1955-57...how many have you ever seen as of late that weren't rebuilt. That 02 is worth a premium if everything's good on it. Should go for north of 30 grand.Last edited by Lindy; Dec 4, 2009, 02:46 PM.

Then they would outlast an old fart like you!Last edited by JAB02LHS; Dec 4, 2009, 02:52 PM.sigpic

Re: Here's a real time machine
ALL THAT PLASTIC ON THE SEATS AND STEERING WHEEL REMINDS ME OF WHEN I DROVE A NEW CAR HOME EVERYDAY. OVER TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND MILES IN NEW CARS AND ECONOLINES IN THIS CONDITION. I WOULD NEVER HAVE THOUGHT ANYONE WOULD KEEP A CAR IN THIS FACTORY SHIPPED CONDITION. WHAT A WASTE.02 Nieman Marcus-SS htp-f/sil. #165 - 21 states-DC
