  • One of twelve T-Birds????

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1-OWN...#ht_4114wt_930

If this is indeed, one of twelve, it is a rare car. Can this be correct?

    Hi Rick,

Good question, it looks similar to all the others in this color I have seen.

I have sent the dealership a question asking them to substantiate their claim other than the former owner's story.

I will post their reply (if I get one).

Well here is the answer, it refers to Dot's website Porthole Authority as proof:

      Dear tbird6t4,

Go to PORTHOLEAUTHORITY.COM to verify. The majority of these were made with either black interior or blue accent. This car is a med. blue over black accent & black top. Larry

I guess we have some reading to do?

Well here is how they brake out, not sure the descriptoin is accurate to start with there are no black hardtops listed.

        Color Roof Interior Number Produced

Medium Steel Blue None Black Black (Standard) 40
Medium Steel Blue None Black Black Accent 12
Medium Steel Blue None Light Sand Sand Appearance Package 17
Medium Steel Blue None Steel Blue Partial Interior Color Accent 42
Medium Steel Blue Med Stl Bl Black Black (Standard) 86
Medium Steel Blue Med Stl Bl Black Black Accent 173
Medium Steel Blue Med Stl Bl Light Sand Sand Appearance Package 250
Medium Steel Blue Med Stl Bl Steel Blue Partial Interior Color Accent 843

Perhaps Dot can clear this one up.

Photos show that it has a steel blue hardtop so either it originally came with no hardtop, thus would be 1 of 12 & owner bought top after the fact, or it came with a blue hardtop and is one of 173. quickdraw could verify which it was.

I should add, no MSB came with a black hardtop and this one does not have a black hardtop so salesman was not thorough with his answer to Gord, nor thorough in checking out my website.

the stats he referred to on my site do not include soft top colors. To include it in his answer to Gord was meaningless. He should have read the stats more carefully instead of going for the first one on that list which happens to clearly say "none" in the hardtop color column - and this auction car clearly has a hardtop.

                  Re: One of twelve T-Birds????

I think that's a fair price for this car considering the low miles and it's an 05 one owner with a clean history. I wouldn't want the warranty though. I would take it to a Ford dealer and pay the $100.00 for the inspection before I bought it, to be sure I could get a Ford ESP on it. One of twelve is of no value. true or not. Leroy

I'm sure there are others who will disagree with me, but when I read these statements where people try to make their cars look more "collectible" based on minor variations of color, with or without hardtop, and interior accent combinations; it's almost laughable.

Basically, there were 1,463 medium steel blue Thunderbirds produced in 2005.

If someone asked me how many mountain shadow grey or inca gold Thunderbirds were produced, I would give them the total production count; not counts based on minor variations as they mean little in terms of value.

                      Re: One of twelve T-Birds????

Agreed, Greg. The only stats of any perceived value to the average buyer are the total of the color. The statement that this car is 1 of 12 is misleading to most buyers. They come away thinking that only 12 were built of this color. Then they run into more of that color and start getting confused. I have "run into" a confused owner before... on a more extreme example.

Yes and the triple Black ones are the rarest of all of the RetroBirds.

If you believe that then, I have a nice bridge in Brooklin that I can sell you for just a few million dollars. Just to show you how nice a guy I am I will throw in the East River for free!

Right on. Alot of puffery in the car-selling business.

I think rarely does color and color combinations affect the value of a car, collectable or not. How often is color the selling point of the car.
Ya think a Glen Green over Polar White 55 Olds is worth more than a black one? Nah.

It'll be a moot issue when the soft top has to be replaced.
