    Re: Undercoating - crazy question

Folks, as I mentioned above, I undercoated my '03 but not my '02. There is zero road noise on the '03 - umm, well maybe it's the Borla's on the '03

Krown rust control T40 is the best. You can purchase 5 liter jugs and spray it on if you own a compressor. Spray cans are also available but will cost you a whole lot more!

            Hey davedan,

I'll leave my comments from another thread on the topic here for the benefit iof any others:

Was just looking through the paper-work for my 02 T-Bird and noticed that the original owner opted to have the dealer (Service Motors Ford of Fond du Lac, WI ed.) apply "The Protector" (The Protector Enviormental Overcoat Paint Protection Sytem and Surface Rust Shield) and "The Protector" (The Protector Interior Shield); each application came with a five year limited warranty. However, the first item is listed as '10-Year Rust Perforation Protection--5-Year Surface Rust Protection--5-Year Paint Protection--5-Year Enviormental Paint Damage Protection'; the disclaimer then reads: "This warranty is applicable only on vehicles to which The Protector Overcoat Paint Shield and Electronic Rustinhibitor have been applied."

I used to be a Texaco rep and had a lot of dealers who sold the Texaco undercoating which we claimed was the best in the world. There was no magic to it. Remember all that nasty gook they used to paint bridges and railroad overpasses with? That was the undercoating people paid a big price for....the manufacturers were able to thin it enough to get it through a spray gun and, voila, undercoating. It did help in the northern climates where salt and chemicals were used on the road and it did have a help reduce road noise. It wasn't a bad product and now that the cars last a lot longer than they used to, I would think it might still have some value up north but not so much where the roads aren't salted and chemed.

Just to clarify, my '02 had a rust-inhibitor treatment of some sort applied to the vehicle (I'm not certain if this included the under-carriage) and a special protectant for the interior. The one for the car or undercarriage is not visible to the best of my knowledge. I would not think it would be wise to have any kind of spray "gunk" or tar coating applied. I'd get some more dependable advice before proceeding with any such precaution as this.
