I found my TBird at a Mercedes-Benz dealer in Lancaster,PA. They had listed it on Ebay. It was so pristine they had it in their show room with all their new cars. It was an 04 that someone had traded in for a new 07 Mercedes and it only had 7K miles on it and still under warranty. We drove 1200 miles to look at it and I drove it home. I wonder if the original owner is as happy with the Mercedes as I am with my TBird, now about 3 years later? Leroy
My wife drives a 2001 Mercedes SLK320. It's a really nice car but I cringe everytime it needs something done. Even routine maintenance isn't cheap on this baby! On the positive side, it really hasn't needed much else so I can't really complain. She's been pretty supportive with allowing me to get what I want in terms of my automotive interests so she should have her dream car too.
I can't imagine anyone will miss Burney and his 3 posts.....

to all....i love my bird and the attention it gets is second to none....but iv also owened MB cars and anyone on this site that thinks these birds are built anywhere near the quality of a mercedes needs to have thier mental state examined.......i understand loyalty to the brand....but come on now....i read this site every day and repair costs seem every bit as high on these cars as an MB......iv said before that the happiest guy on this site seems to be the guy selling the ext, warr. in 5yrs the only thing my bird has needed is oil changes....so this is not sour grapes....but some of the statements made here just makes you shake your head.
My brother-in-law owned an independent repair shop. One day he called one of my cars a piece of S--T.Being insulted I told him it was the best I could afford. He than told me "anytime a car no matter what brand breaks down its a piece of s**t." Very true words.
One thing is certain - Burney won't find a group as friendly, helpful, congenial and supportive as those who are TBird folks. I owned a Benz wagon for 5 years in the 90's. It was a '83 300TD (diesel Wagon in what is now the E Class series). It had a list price of ~$33,000 in '83 - I bought it for $3500 in '93 with about 130K miles. It was a good vehicle, and there are times that I wish I still had it. We joined the Mercedes Benz of America Club. The club publication is second to none. Lots of mainstream magazines should take lessons from it. But as for many members of the club -what a bunch of typically arrogant egotistical snobs for the most part! Most of these folks did not have high end new cars or those with classic or collectible status. Most of their cars were like mine, nice daily drivers, and in many cases, cars that were well worn, even some of the late models. Too many of these folks felt like there were no other cars on the road worth owning, and ownership of a MB put them in some type of elevated social stratosphere. And these folks could certainly have used some lessons in social etiquette - if we didn't talk to them, they didn't talk to us. And we were the "new" guys! I kept the membership as long as I owned the car, but stopped going to meetings after a few. Fortunately, I have an MB corporate employee as a very good friend, so I had someone to turn to whenever I had questions or technical issues. If you want to have "Fun,Fun Fun" with your car, you might need to be looking at another marque.

Mmmm......strange... I traded my late father's '87 Mercedes 560 SL for my '02 'Bird...and never regretted it...Mercedes' are great cars, but over-evaluated in my opinion...Just not for me.
Claude.
Most come in here because of the car.
Most stay in here because of the people.
Even if I would trade my Bird for any other brand I would still be here.
You're absolutely right, Frits, we stay here because of the people. But we all know that you would never trade your Tbird for another brand.....what would you do with all that Tbird paraphanalia?
I had a Mecedes. I purchased a used 56 in memphis Tennessee while stationed at the Naval Air Station there. I had a lot of fun with it. I had to sell my 56 Tbird before I joined the Navy in 61. I did all the work on the MB. Never in the shop. It had bad shocks but I had the 13" tires shaved and it drove like a dream.
It had 4 on the colum and used automatic transmission fluid in the manual trany. Shifted nicely. Only problem, the used car dealer put some english spark plugs in that were too long. The threads would melt and removing the plug would strip the aluminum head. When stationed in california, LeMoore Naval Air Station, I saw a Mecedes sports car in Fresno. Salesman did not want me to lean on the car since it had aluminum body and would dent easily.
Since I could not find another Tbird I would dream of such a Mercedes sports car. I did wait 40 years for another Tbird. It was love at first sight again.
I remember driving the MB from Lincoln,NE to Lemore ,CA. I was speeding in NE and a patrolman stoped me. I pleaded ignorance since the speedometer was in KM and I was not familliar with the conversion. He let me off (I was in uniform). The car was obviously shiped to the USA by some GI returning from Europe then.

When I went shopping for my Hobby car, I drove all the 2 seaters out there, BMW, MB, Lexus, ect...I could have not made a better choice with the My Retro TBird for myself.
Many of the hot imports have such a snob factor in my humble opinion and people seem so curious about the TBird and ask all kinds of questions about it. Its just the best 2 seater secret out there and its much more fun to drive when you're not trying to impress everyone with a big buck brand. Just my opinion.
I would be curious to know what problems they faced. I have not had any, but when and if I do, I know this site will help me solve it and make it a smaller problem.
