Come on folks....it's pretty hard to fall in love with a vehicle that was trouble from the start. We don't know what else he might have encountered in the short while he owned it.

HKS, I was stationed at that same base at that time. If I remember right the town was Millington, Tenn. just North of Memphis. I joined the Marines in 61 and they sent me there for the Jet Engine Mechanics School. I was there for about 8 months and had alot of fun in Memphis. I was 17, single and had a 1957 Mercury Monteray 2Dr,HT. I went to Memphis almost every week-end, but if I could get a 96 hour pass I would go home to the Chicago-land area. Leroy

          Leroy,

I too had a good time and good friends in Memphis NAS. I remember taking the Mercedes to the Marty Gras from there to New Orleans. We did all of Bourbon Street to Beal Street. Stayed overnight there. I was taking Aviation Electronics and I had several marines in my class.
Nice to hear from you Leroy.

What years were the 280SLK made? If they made a 320SLK in 2001, it must be older than that. I assume it is the 6Cyl and not the 4 cylinder.
