Re: What "Gender" is your T'bird ?

This whole thread is right off the wall!

How do you fight winter boredom? Give your RetroBird a name and gender!

    How nuts are we all?

Lon, Margaret and I are with you. We say to each other: "Do we go in the Bird" or "Do we go in the truck"? No names or gender.

Uhh, is that Margaret and Charlie with no names or gender? Or the Bird and the Truck? Which, by the way, sound pretty gender specific.

I guess my RETRO is male. If it were female, the license plate would say RETRA ... according to the Romance languages.

And so, with this year coming to an end, I guess it is time to put this thread to an end. The consenses seems to be mostly femanine. A few still put tostestorone in their gas tank and one even refers to his as a "frikken" car, or should that the "friggen' ? (time for a dictionary). Anyway folks, it was a hoot for me, especially the sample from John's vegetalble garden, haven't laughed so hard in a long time. So, to all, a Happy New year and may we enjoy each others company again in 2010.

A few years ago my five year old son told me the gender of my car. He ran by my Bronze bird and stopped as if he had run into a wall. He said, "dad why did you paint the front of your car BLACK". I explained to him it was a bra and what it was used for,
Then he explained to me "HE DID NOT KNOW I HAD A GIRL CAR". WHAT WE LEARN, OUT OF THE MOUTH OF BABES!!!

Re: What "Gender" is your T'bird ?

My wife asked me this question when we first bought our TBird. She has always given every car/truck that we have owned a name.

Our 67 Mustang Convertible was called "Pinto Bean" (burnt amber? w/ black interior -this was a Female, because that is what my 3 daughters said!(still get misty eyed when I think about her).

Our 05 A4 Audi Convertible (lemon should have been the name) was called "Audrey" a winey Female.

My current truck an 04 FX4 Crewcab Black on Black is called "44", and he is "Male" all the way (this is what my wife, daughters, son-in-laws, grand-daughters, and grandson say)!

Now with the car we have always wanted "TBird", is called "The Bird" or "Bird". And I do think the Bird is a female. As was stated earlier, she is beautiful and sleek, and so many other words.......and she takes care of me like my wife does, as Bird takes care of her like I do, and every stranger says "she is beautiful"! Sorry for the long reply.

I stand corrected via pm: ALL of my Retros have been females ... I called the 03 Raven aka Princess and now the 04 Raven is Suzanne so all my Birds have been feminine including the merlot who is Scarlett.

My Mustang GT was named Jake: When I get another it will be named Tyler ... Will will be able to figure it out.

My birds have all been females: 02 "little red", 95 "black beauty", 85 "skybird". Currently have a hemi charger as well - her name is "ruby" as in ruby red (not torch).

Mike's cars have all been boys: currently "midnight".

My daughter always names her cars as males: currently "monty", but her husband's explorer is "francine".

Years ago, in Australia, I referred to a car as "she" and my Australian business acquaintance took exception because he, and he said all other proper thinking and speaking Australians, see automobiles as machines and would not think of referring to them as women. I guess, if you see the car as a thing of beauty it is female.....mechanical, it becomes neuter.

Sally, you're so right! "Annie" is the same way. Sometimes I just open the garage door between her and the laundry room and say "Good night Annie, sleep tight" or some other affectionate phrase.

She got her name when I first took her to a different Ford dealer for service, and the service advisor said my car was a 50th Anniversary Thunderbird. I just thought "Annie", yeah, that should be her name!
