hey yall Im working on a project and I need a measurement of the rear axle from wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface. I'm looking at putting an IRS under a 1966 Mustang and think it might fit. Thanks Curtis ps I miss my Bird.

Are you thinking of road racing? If you are willing to go to that much trouble, I will assume you are well equipped for a job like that. Look for an LS that was destroyed in the front and may be in a bone yard. If it is too wide, cut, or have someone cut the half shafts to fit. If they are too short, rework the wheel wells and go to wider tires and deeper wheels. Better yet, check out the ads and articles in car mags like Hot Rod. They are always doing things like that. Also late Mustang Cobras had IRS.
