  • T-Bird on Toy Train Flatcar

I recently received the Lionel Train's flatcar that includes 2 retro T-Birds in a scale of 1:43.

The Birds are either Desert Sky Blue or Light Ice Blue. Depends on how one sees the blue hue on their computer screen. Photos attached.

The Bird's have a complete black interior with a chrome center dash.

If any TBN member who has also purchased this Lionel item and received the gray Birds and would like to swap for the blue send me a PM. The color of the Birds makes little difference to me.

Interesting that Lionel modeled them as though Ford shipped them by rail with the top down.
      They are pretty neat.

Actually the little Bird is made by Road Signatures for Lionel, maybe Lionel didn't want to pay extra for the HT.
When MTH offered a flatcar with the 1955 Birds, those came with a HT.

          They are definitely DSB!
I'm going to Dale's Trains tomorrow to get a new engine just for my T-Bird railcars. My Lionel Polar Express just couldn't handle the load!

That is a colorful load, Elle. Have I GOT to get my boxes unpacked! I just hope all my flat cars fit on the same track. I've also got green and black 57s on flat cars to add on and might even have some red 55s on a flat car.

As for hard vs topless versions. Road Signatures (actually Yat Ming is the manufacturer) models came with either hardtop or topless. It probably depended on how many Yat Ming had available of the topless version vs the hardtop version. They may have only had the topless version available for Lionel to purchase at a good rate since those models were probably painted several years ago.

Back in 1994, Lionel issued a Ford licensed entry level train set.

              Here's a Video

I just saw one on ebay for a fair price

              ebay item # 130355368361

K-line has issued 2 MP-15 Ford diesel engines. One was issued last year under the "K-Line by Lionel" name:

The other was issued in 1999 when they were just K-Line.

Sorry. Couldn't find a picture of that one.

....It would be kind of fun to read more about your train sets/collections....strikes a little chord within, of the train set I had in my teens!.......

Dot & Elle, If you display them, adding a piece of track is a great addition. You would need O gauge track and the best price I've found is through Charles Ro here in Boston, but you may find some on ebay.
The straight pieces are 10" long and the curves are 13" long, if you but the Lionel "Fastrak". It comes with a gray moulded road bed....You can even buy a 'stop' bumper with a red light if you want. Just a thought.

Martin, we have a few train people here as well. I've been setting up my 1939set for the past 2 years and Mike Schwartz has got fantastic setup at his home in WA.

Here is a Ford licensed Mustang train set by Lionel made in 2001.

Too bad they didn't do a set like that for the T Birds on the 50th anniversary.

They should go for under $300.00 on eBay.

John, which Lionel flatcar/auto piece are you inquiring about? T-Bird or Mustang? Or both?

Everyone is invited to view my train layout that MATBIRD has mentioned.
Look closely at the different photo shots, there is much going on and some things have changed over the last few months as no train layout is ever finished.

                              Hi,
I am just interested in the T-Bird flatcar. I took the tour of your layout via the slide show.
WOW! really nice. I'm sure your familiar with Classic Toy Trains magazine, if I were you I
would be sending them some photos. I do believe your layout is worthy of a spread in that
                              magazine.
