But I recommend a K&N cold air intake as well I love the new found power and sound good luck.
Like Ron said, he has tried others. Before he even got his on, I was asking him how he liked the cheaper ways to go and was thinking the same. He talked me into Bolas, from his experience with others...

Go Borlas, you will not regret spending the money...

There is even a Borla club membership thread...check it out...

"If you go to any Ford parts sales you'll see that they are sold seperatly except for the muffler and resonator are sold togeather becuase they are connected buy a piece of pipe. There is no mention of a cross over piece. If there is one it's still on my car."

      Lawrence:

You are correct. The muffler and resonator are sold together in one piece and the cross over pipe is in the system forward of both of them so it is probably still in place on your car. I understand the need to look for savings but I also don't want anyone to damage their car by accident.Bronzebird

Rick, Does the Borla system have a cross over? And is it before or after the Borla mufflers. The only cross over I've ever had to deal with was on my Harleys and I eliminated them when I installed other exhaust pipes. The Harley cross over is before the mufflers. I was under the impression the Borla system was from the Cat. back, with 2 new mufflers and resonators and tips. Leroy

              Leroy:

As you can see from the illustration John posted there is a built-in crossover with the Borlas as the two exhaust pipes go into a large, common muffler that has the crossover feature inside. On the stock system the mufflers are separate and that necessitates some kind of 'H' pipe to eliminate the back pressure build up as I noted earlier in this thread.

As much as I love my Borlas, I sure wish Lonestar could have persuaded Corsa to make a system for our Birds. The Corsa exhaust system sounds so sweet!

                    Leroy:

Attached is an exploded view of the stock T-Bird exhaust system.

Note that the H pipe or crossover is behind the two mufflers. When you cut off the mufflers, if you cut too far back on the pipes the H pipe is gone.

You do get some amount of cross over from the rear catalytic converter (the T-Bird uses three of these, two standalones at the manifold and one larger coverter that they then dump into). This larger converter has two pipes that go all the way through but there is some cross over benefit in the center.

Without the cross over designed for the system however, the engine is not running as efficiently as it was designed to.

Looks like I'm going to buy a Borla system to round out my cold air intake. Thanks to everyone! I am learning so much about these cars that if I keep reading, I'll be the neighborhood expert before too long. I bought my 2002, twenty five thousand mile bird to have fun when the sun shines. It looks like I'm going to have more fun with this car than I ever expected.

                        Melissa,
I have had Borla's since 2003. Then I got them for around $625.00. I know they are more expensive now. Borlas are actually manufactured in your area. Mine came from Ventura I believe. They were dropped shipped to me in Woodland for less than $50.00.

I love the sound, it is just loud enough without being tiresome on a long trip.

I have enjoyed this discussion so much that I just had to go outside and take a few photos of my old exhaust system removed in Mar. 06 from my 05 Bird.

As you can see it is just leaning against my fence waiting for me to do something with it.

It is easy to see the crossover pipe that Rick is speaking of.

I was saving the old/stock system when we lived up north. When we made the move to Florida it went into the dumpster when I was cleaning out the garage. That's how much faith I have in the Borlas lasting the life of the Bird as long as I own it. And I plan on owning it till I quite.

This thread has been talking so much about 'cross over' that it's beginning to sound like an episode of Ghost Whisperer.

You'll be able to leave the exhaust tips you have now just as they are too. The sound you get is more mellower and deeper than the Borlas. If you think they are too loud for you, you can have small glass packs added. And yes it's legal and your car will pass any emission tests as you are not messing with the cat. converters. Another nice thing about this change is you can always have the original resenators reinstalled. I found some Stainless Steel extentions that I put on my car that fit right over the Ford tips. I found that at certain RPMs there was a drone inside the car because the Ford tips were not far enough from the bottom edge of the rear bumper. The extentions eliminated that. Good Luck what ever way you go. Leroy

So with all this talk about removing the mufflers, did you remove your mufflers, resonators, or both???
