  • Borla Price for 2004

I have read every thread I could find and it appears the Borla exhaust is the most popular. I wish I could sepnd less and get a good rumble sound (glass packs???), but it appears this is the best bet.

SO...where can I get the best price in the Los Angeles (Torrance) area?

    Re: Borla Price for 2004

    Welcome Meilissa,
I cant help with the cost of a Borla in LA. But my experience has been wonderfull with the Borla. I did try other home made systems and was not Happy with the sound of them (a lot of research went in to the Borla exhaust.)
But I recommend a K&N cold air intake as well I love the new found power and sound good luck.

Why would you want to spend less for your baby...
I have had Borla's on for 3 years and love the way they are silent until you step on it!
      Well worth the money.

Melissa, You can spend a $1000.00 bucks on Borlas if you want or you can spend about $200.00 and go to any reputable muffler shop and ask them to take off your resenators and put a straight piece of pipe in place of them. You'll be able to leave the exhaust tips you have now just as they are too. The sound you get is more mellower and deeper than the Borlas. If you think they are too loud for you, you can have small glass packs added. And yes it's legal and your car will pass any emission tests as you are not messing with the cat. converters. Another nice thing about this change is you can always have the original resenators reinstalled. I found some Stainless Steel extentions that I put on my car that fit right over the Ford tips. I found that at certain RPMs there was a drone inside the car because the Ford tips were not far enough from the bottom edge of the rear bumper. The extentions eliminated that. Good Luck what ever way you go. Leroy

Melissa, you can't go wrong with the good stuff, namely Borlas. Don't put junk on that beautiful '04 Black Bird.

              Leroy:

If you take off the resonators (actually they are the mufflers, the resonators are the big cans at the rear) and don't put some kind of crossover pipe to connect them such as the original equipment pipes have, you will most likely burn up your valves before too long.

Stuff is put there for a reason and Borlas are designed to account for the original way the car was engineered to run.

My guess is your car may sound fine but I'd be willing to bet that you now have less torque and horsepower at the rear wheels than you had with the original system.

Borlas are the ONLY way to go. Same as factory equipment and are stainless steel. Never need replaced. And they sound just right. Low hum/rumble without the loud booming as glass packs. JMO!

Many folks here have put Magnaflow mufflers on their cars and found just the right amount of "happy burble" that they want.

The number of the muffler you want is 11225. I just put them on my car and the tone is nice and mellow and not the sharper sound of Borlas and glasspacks.

Also, there is no droning at road speeds, you can't hear them.

The cost for mine installed was less than $300.00

                    I love them!

                    Welcome!

                      Re: Borla Price for 2004

Rick, Actually there are 2 Cats, 2 Mufflers and 2 Resonaters in the exhaust system. If you go to any Ford parts sales you'll see that they are sold seperatly except for the muffler and resonator are sold togeather becuase they are connected buy a piece of pipe. There is no mention of a cross over piece. If there is one it's still on my car. The resonaters merely quiet down the exhaust and do not have hardly any back pressure, compared to the cats and mufflers, were the Borla system states it opens up the restrictions to increase power. I'm sure the Borla system has been well tested and is everything they say it is. I'm just trying to save anyone some money if they're just looking for less expensive way to go. My car runs fine and I get good gas mileage, I can't say it's increased my horse power or anything though. But I am very happy with it and have had nothing but positive comments on how it sounds. Leroy

No from increased back pressure. The cross over pipe equalizes pressure between the two exhaust lines. Without it in place you actually increase back pressure in the entire system.

The firing order of all production V8s, regardless of make, has one cylinder in each bank that will fire within 90 degrees of crankshaft rotation of another cylinder in the same bank. This occurs twice during completion of the entire firing order. These two cylinders will be exhausting almost simultaneously into the same exhaust manifold system.

On a full exhaust system, after the exhaust manifold dumps into the catalytic converter, the two close firing cylinders are fighting each other for space in the manifold. The result is reflected pressure waves traveling back up the exhaust system, backpressure, lost power and poor economy.

At the same time two cylinders exhaust in one bank, there is no activity in the opposite bank. The traditional H-pipe equalizer allows some of the excess pressure to bleed over to the 'quiet side' of the exhaust system, resulting in some low and mid-range torque improvements.

The equalizer pipe is put in place to avoid the conflict of pressure caused by the timing of the 2 counter firing cylinders, which will create back pressure and degrade torque, horsepower and general performance, especially at higher RPM.

                          Dean:

I put the Magna flows on my car back in '07 and really liked the sound. In fact, I posted something back then advocating the Magna Flows over the Borlas.

When I ran the car on the Dyno however, I found that they were restricting the flow of my system because of the big bend required to fit them into the rear fender spaces.

The torque and horsepower ratings were not much improved on stock.

When I pulled the Magna Flows off and put on the Borla system the horsepower jumped up but more significantly, the torque figures really moved up big time.

My performance is much improved as are the gasoline consumption figures.

Thanks Dean and Rick, I have Borlas on my 05 and like them, I'm thinking of getting another bird soon and was looking for a less expensive way to go. You both gave great opinions which is what this form should be about. Rick I think I'll be going Borlas again.

Got Borla's and like them a lot! Maybe we need a new thread - "The Great Borla Debate". The original question had to do with getting the best price, not whether it was the thing to do. Contact Julie - Borla Babe! So far that's one of the few responses to the point.
