  • License Plate Placement?

I just replaced my recently wrecked(which is available on eBay,stay away!)MSB with another MSB I bought in Mich.
My question. Mich is a one plate state. NY is not.
I bought a license bracket and just can't put those rivets through the front bumper cover, once it's done, it's done.
Anyone have an alternate idea how to hang a plate without punching a hole in the cover? The plate is sitting on the dash board at the moment.
    Thanks

My tag is in the trunk, Cal. is a 2 tag state. So far I've been lucky. I made a removeable bracket following some guidelines published by one of the members on the site. The bracket is also in the trunk.

Yes, there are some clever solutions, use the search key. I'd direct you to the threads, but I'm at work and can't right now.

I WENT ELEVEN YEARS IN OHIO WITH OUT THE FRONT PLATE ON MY 1987 COUGAR 20TH ANNIVERSARY. I WENT THROUGHT EMISSION TESTS AND INSPECTIONS WITHOUT A WORD SAID. I WOULD GET FORGIVENESS, NOT PERMISSION.

I've had the same issue. Might still have if this doesn't work. I went to Home depot and bought some industrial strength velcro patches. These were placed where the rivets would otherwise go. The plate has been on for 2 weeks now with no lessening of the grip. I'm in California and the weather has been very nice, so i'll have to see how it does in the rain. Also makes for easy removal of the plate/frame.

Spouse used the stock holder, drilled a couple of new holes in the holder and tie wrapped it to the grill. You can not tell that it's not using holes in the bumper unless you look straight down and see the tie wraps.

A suggestion is that if you do go ahead and install the front plate holder you might want to paint it to match the color of your bird. This is an option for all of us except those with the EB. I painted mine and it looks better than the black on the Cashmere anyway. Also I have yet to paint the shock covers, but that is next and am thinking of painting the engine cover.

I'm thinking that the map pocket might make a good license plate storage spot.
I kind of like the way it looks without a plate.

Don't put it on, I am in Ohio and have been 7 years without one on the front.

                        Re: License Plate Placement?

I myself -- have the plate on my bird -- but NEVER put a plate on the front of my Solstice as it totally covered up the teensy grille that was there.

I only got a ticket once - for $25.00 (meter ran out -- otherwise I am sure I would have been fine!). I kept the front plate under the driver's seat. That said -- I got pulled over for a speeding infraction - and the police officer never said anything about the missing plate (he did do a walk around to check).

Of course -- I live less than 10 minutes from you. I say -- try to live without the front plate.

                          Re: License Plate Placement?

I decided reluctantly to at last attach the front liscense plate. I thought it best to keep interactions with the police to a minimum and certainly not give them excuses to "check me out". No Borlas or blackout tints either. I do carry Purple heart plates and hope they may provide some ticket protection and at least I won't have any other "provocatiers". So far so good .. it's hard to never drive a car like this a "little fast".....

                            Re: License Plate Placement?

I have mounted the front plates on both of the new birds and my '02 F-150 Lightning. The front bracket is tied on with cable ties on all three. We were stopped for 87 in an 80 zone on the way home from Desert Thunder in the '05 in Oct of '08 and got a warning ticket for no front plate (had it under the seat). This summer I got stopped in the Lightning for no front plate (warning ticket) and about a month later Dot got stopped in the '02 and a warning ticket for no front plate. The Lightning had the plate visible in the windshield, but not acceptable to the Trooper. The cable tie solution is working and easy to remove if I want.

This may give you some ideas:

There is also a thread that showes the front bracket lowered to expose more of the grill. A search should give you several ideas.
