    Re: Transmission Failure on 2003

Your extended warranty is an insurance contract. If I were in your state, I would file a claim against them in "small claims court". I had an insurance company renege on a contract with me a few years ago and they settled pretty quick. In South Carolina the limit is $5000 for small claims court and the cost to me for filling the claim was about $35.

There is a used T-Bird transmission on Ebay right now.

      It's an idea to consider....

      Best of luck!!

You could also call your state insurance commissioner's office.

I am sure they would look into this for you.

        Good luck.

          Quick follow-up:

We let AAMCO do the work on the rebuilding to include boring, solenoid pack, etc. The tranny was not bad off however the computer was. After they rebuilt the tranny 3-4 gear had still too firm of a shift.

Dan (at AAMCO) looked into the TSBs at ford and found an emissions warranty (8year) that replaced the 'birds computer for free. at the Lincoln dealer.

Now the tranny is guaranteed for life.

Ford never caught this issue (TSB) and we have been very diligent in taking it to our dealer for service.

So between these things the transmission has never and I do mean NEVER been so smooth in regular or sport positions.

Yes, we are the original owners as well.

          ^ Happy Bird Owners!!

Hey Mickey!Glad to hear your problem has been fixed with the Bird's tranny.

I think we all would like to know the TSB number you make reference to. Please share this info, it could be a help to one of us.

Also keep us posted on what happens with your extended warranty contract. That too may save one of us problems.

I too would like to know that TSB number .
My transmission is becoming more and more rough in the shifting , especially at low speed in traffic to the point it sometimes is as bad as being rearended by another car .
I was wondering if flushing the fluid and replace with a mercon V would do some good to it .I did this a few years ago on a Mark VIII

                Re: Transmission Failure on 2003

I come to find out it wasnt a TSB on the computer. He simply told Lincoln that it was failing and causing emissions issue along with transmission (since it ran poorly). The emissions carried an inherent 8yr/80k warranty.

Runs so smooooooooth now. I think that the Pugeot transmission where crap to begin with and should have been recalled as a defect since this issue is in the exploders and tbirds.

the valve body was replaced with an improved model
                bored out to increase lubrication
aluminum sleeves were replaced with brass one.
                etc.

I recommend doing this even if you don't have issues no since it will save you a rebuild in the future and make the tranny work like it should have from the factory.

Then buy the lifetime warranty and your bird will be hap hap happy.

                hth,

                Mick

So you went to the dealership and asked for the computer to be changed .
They did so at a 45 dollars charge .
Is that what you are saying ? including parts and labor ?
                      Is it a recall ?
I am going to try to find the info on this forum as you mentioned it would be helpful if you could be more precise about it .
                      Thanks

The dealer is working the issue still; not holding my breath though. Seems that people need a reminder of what integrity is.
