I've been told, 200 Neiman Marcus Thunderbirds were made in 2000,but not sold then. Are they cosidered the 2002 model? Please fill me in. bird7
There was a pre-sale (order date) on Sept 25, 2000 for the 200 Neiman Marcus thru the Neiman Marcus Christmas catalog. They were not built until starting in June 2001 and they were not delivered to the owners until mid-Sept to mid-October 2001.
Really nothing to add to Ford's article, Shelly. The NM concept was introduced at Pebble Beach on August 18, 2000.
Didn't answer you question quite right,D.G. Yes, the NM is a 2002 Thunderbird. Built right along with the other colors for 2002.
You may find this interesting Dot. I have an article from the Toronto Telegram dated Sept. 23, 2000, showing Mark Conforzi holding a 1/18 diecast NM on the streets of Toronto. The article is titled "Bird in the Hand". (so we know when the diecast first came out)
Then again, knowing you, you probably already have the article in your collection.
MartinB.
Martin, I don't have that article, nor saw it. but I do know that Ford's Collection catalog that came out for that fall, had that model in it with notation that it started shipping at the end of October.
saving money on recasting the model if a company came out with the model during the concept years. Diecast companies really don't like to do new castings unless the molds are past their primes.
I don't think there are a lot of people that are aware of the Nieman Marcus, other than TBird owners. I say this becuase I get alot of comments about my 04 EB with an MSG hard top and have had only one person say they thought it was an NM. Most people just say that it's the first time they've seen a Black TBird with a Silver top. Leroy
Leroy...does the metalic paint job of the MSB contrast with the EB? I have both also and I think it looks great on your pics, but I've never tried the combo because I wasn't sure about the contrasting paints...Jerry
Jerry, I'm assuming you know the difference between MSG & MSB and it was a type error. The MSG really doesn't look all that metalic to me, although I know it is. I think it blends real nice with the EB, I love the contrast. I bought the top with every intention of having it painted EB, but once I got it on the car that all changed. I've had nothing but positive comments from everyone that sees it. Leroy
