    Re: Computer failed to engage

Thanks. I've already got the WD40 out and will spray some in the morning....I had the problem a few years back. By the time I get home, I'm ready to kill someone listening to it all day lol.

Is the "Search" function no longer working? It's not working for me.

Check the trunk to make sure it's closed. When it's ajar the door ajar light comes on.

Barbara, I will get some disagreement here, but if your car is cranking and starting there is nothing wrong with your battery, however it is a good idea to have it checked. My 2002 has been in service for 8 years and 2 months and the battery is still strong. Our cars have strong batteries and if driven at least once a month the batteries last a long time. Good luck on finding your problem.

I just started using Firefox as a browser.....super fast, but I haven't worked out all the bugs yet. Thanks Dot...I know the problem is mine now.

I ordered a battery today....don't want to have to worry about it down the road. If something isn't getting enough voltage, I'll find out soon.

Next project is to find someone to unprogram the door ajar ding, ding ding. The light is enough of a warning....don't need the sound effects.

              Speaking of batteries.....

I decided to put a new battery in my '05 in November 2008 when the Ford dealer had a sale on them at $79.95 installed.

Last week (one of the days it was 19 degrees outside) my car failed to start. I trickled it up for a few hours and wandered down to the dealership where the battery and the circuit were tested.

The battery had a couple of bad cells and was replaced under warranty.

The response from my query on how it could go bad so fast....

                Re: Computer failed to engage

I don't know about the other problems, but I just have to mention about a battery:
My 1996 F-150 still has it's original battery, dated April, 1996. I had to replace the positive cable last winter due to corrosion. Yes, it's a Fomoco. I now carry jumper cables.
I once had a Delco Freedom battery last 9 years in a Firebird before it went bad. The battery in my wife's Tahoe is 6 years old.
Other than those three, it's normally about 3 years.
Nice to get lucky once in a while.
                Good Luck,

I have had the same thing happen over the last several years and got the same response. Two different kinds of batteries (Ford & Interstate) were involved and they both failed in less than two years. One battery (Interstate) was so dead it could not be jump-started the conventional method.

                      Re: Computer failed to engage

Come to think of it, I just got a battery for the Caddy.....only lasted eight months. I noticed the warranty went from 36 months on the old one to 30 months on the new one.

The TBird always fires up perfect....even in this ice cold weather. Kills me to replace the battery.

How do you check the voltage? Will AutoZone do that?

I don't think I can take another day of ding ding ding.....

Barb, find out what else is on that same fuse. If it's all by itself, pull it until you get it fixed.

Most AutoZones will check your battery for no charge.

By all means, use the WD40 to degrease and clean the switch (hinges or any other parts on your car). However, notice that WD40 is not a lubricant, but a degreaser and water displacer. Follow up with some spray lube, like White Lithium or other grease to keep the action smooth.

                            Just sayin....

I have always had good luck with Auto Zone counter workers being willing to help. A few years ago, I inquired about working at Auto Zone, and they told me that I needed a certification or assoiciates degree in automotive mechanics to get the job. I didn't get the job, but they have saved me with several of my cars, including my Bird.

I found out the ding, ding, ding.....stops at 30 miles lol.

Had the battery replaced, stuck the key in the ignition and......DING, DING, DING

....it wasn't the battery. Oh well....got a new one now. Don't know why, but I kept the old one too.

He sprayed lubricant on the door latch and viola....
