I like the looks all three ways so it was hard for me to decide. But, since it is really Sue's car, she likes it with the convertible top up and actually has had people she works with say they like it better that way, too. The Merlot with the contrasting Sand top certainly gets attention.
Of course, the top down is the most fun way to drive it!
The 2 toned look with the hardtop is my favorite, Though matching color hardtops are a close second. I agree the porthole hardtop sets the T-bird apart from any other soft top car...
My preference is the contrasting white hard top "on".... though I certainly love the car "topless". It's been mentioned several times before - as Retrobird owners, we benefit from having 2 distinctive looks with our treasured cars - each time I change over, I always have the instant feeling that I am driving a new car !!
It's tough to pick, all three look great. But I'll give the slight edge to the TBird with the top on with the portholes. I have WW with WW top. Driving of course is best with the top down, weather permitting. The black softtop looks great too, its a really tough choice!
Check your registration. Mine says Ford Thunderbird Convertible. Anything other than top-down is an aberration.
And for you two-tone freaks, the Thunder God did not make WW to lie with anything but WW. And that goes for the rest of them, too. What are you from? San Francisco? New York? Mess with nature and you're risking wrath.

I love our Black with Red Hardtop. It looks so retro and I am from California, San Jose, CA and do not consider myself a freak. The two-tone look is so much more imaginative than just the plain old 'vanilla' one tone car. As far as the Thunder Gods, when ordering your car, you could two-tone any of the cars upon ordering. The Neiman Marcus came out of the factory two-toned. Black car with a Silver top.
This is just my humble opinion..........................
