  • Our Bird's Remote Entry Key Fob Battery

The retro Bird's remote entry fob's battery is a lithium coin shaped battery CR2032 or equivalent.

Anybody have to replace one yet?
How long do these little batteries last?

Seems mine is getting weaker, can't be as far away from the Bird as I use to be to check if I remembered to lock up.

These batteries generally will last between 3 to 8 years with an average life span around 5 years depending on the amount of use.

They are pretty much a long lasting battery the longest I have heard of them going is between 9 and 10 years in a car remote.

Not a big deal to change them usually there are often two in a remote and you can replace them yourself. Remove the fob from the key ring and using a coin place it in the top of the fob where the ring goes thru and twist, it should just pop open.

If you buy them at WallyWorld they are fairly inexpensive ($5 or $6) for the pair. If you take them to a watch repair place or jewelry store they will probably cost you $6 to $10 each.

I worked in a store that sold watches, batteries and clocks when I retired the first time 5 years ago so I got to over charge people like us for the convenience for the DIFM people. (DIFM= Do It For Me)

    Have fun, fun, fun!

Radio shack will test and replace for no additional cost than buying the battery & doing it yourself.
They tested my truck remote battery when it would not work over a year ago, it testesd good so he put it back together and told me to try it. It's been good for over a year.

Mike - they are the same batteries that are used in the key-passes for Lojack system...and they recommend changing every 6 months. I hadn't done that (key-passes were a couple years old), but one of those malfunctioned a couple weeks ago, so we replaced all of them just to be sure.

Key fobs for my Expedition are 10 years old - I've never changed the batteries. Go figure. Maybe I should.

To extend the range of the transmitter, face the car and hold the fob under your chin then press the button.

I'm not kidding and this really works.

            Yep, it does work.

The key fobs for my 17 year old Taurus SHO have the original batteries in them and they still work fine.

Check you local $$ Dollar Stores, they generally have a good selection of batteries, I even buy them for my home cordless phones for $3 instead of $20 +.
And by holding the remote higher to shoulder or head height, the signal goes more line of sight to your car, not trying to go through the bodies of surrounding cars.

Maybe it's just mine BUT ... I had one fob "go dead" at a friends house and i was able to open the doors with the key but could not start the car and attempts would sound the alarm. I had to have my wife bring me the other fob/key and I turned off the alarm with it and all was well. I put a new battery in it via Radio Shack and the fob has never worked since. I have been afraid to reprogram it because I'm afraid I will end up with two non working fobs. thoughts on this.

Jon the same thing happened to me but I just locked the door, unlocked the door with the key and started the car. As soon as I turned the key in the ignition the alarm shut off

                        Jon,
You cannot unprogram a remote. The procedure programs the car to accept the remotes that you have.

Can I program the car so it won't accepy either remote? Should I do this in the parking lot of my Ford dealer?

My T Bird remotes still use the same battery and I bought my car in 2001. My T Bird still has the original battery in the trunk also, (oops I better go home and start her tonight I may have just jinxed her lol.)
I have a 1997 Escort that also has same battery in the remote.
I have a friend that has a 2008 Audi Q8? and he has had to replace the batteries in his remotes 3 or 4 times.
