  • One Millionth T'Bird

Going through some old files/pictures and thought some of you may not have seen this car before. It is the one millionth bird produced and was driven off the line/and owned by George Watts (deceased) who also owned the first production line '55 bird that was sold by auction last year at B/J. This one millionth bird is now owned by Bob Peterson. Still all original and almost like new with very few miles on odometer.

BTW. It is a 1972 Land. Need to downsize pictures of car to post.

Plus... it was the only one produced that year with the white bumper strip along the side.

The 72 Tbird and the Mark IV were petty much the same car except for the bumpers, grills and the Mark's trunk lid. Both only available in the 2 Dr. HT. The Mark came with a 460 V8 standard and the TBird a 429 for about the first 2000 built, then they discovered the car was too heavy for the 429 and started installing the 460. I wonder what's under the hood on this one? This was the first year for the Opera windows on the Mark too. Leroy

I drove one of these in college. You are right, it needed to be downsized (LOL). Thanks for the photos, Martin.

Mine was blue and it had a 429. The speedo went to about 130 mph. It would peg out at that. Seemed to me the 429 was quite capable.

Yea! Ford kept the 460 in the TBirds untill I think 77 when they started down sizeing and went back to the 429. Leroy

Yes, 1977 was the first year for the downsizing. I used to call them the LTD Birds. Standard engine was the 302 CID 2V V-8. Optional engine size was the 351 CID 2V V-8 or the 400 CID 2V V-8. ( for trailer hauling). With this down sizing, sales sky rocketed. From 46,713 units for the last year of the big ones in 1976, to a whopping 300,066 units in 1977 and to top that with 319,328 units in 1978 (a record year).

Mine was a '73 with the 460. I loved it, even if it was a land yacht.

                      James, anchors away!

No matter how big they got you just couldn't complain about the level of passanger/driver comfort and amenities could you?

You could pass most anything on the road...........except a gas station !!!

It was afterall a highway cruiser, gas was cheap, Pittsburgh steel was plentiful and not to mention all those little crushed velvets that gave up their lives for us to sit on! Ah, memories! The good old days!!!

                        Thank you, Snowbird!

Beautiful; the overall design reminds me a bit of my silver-blue 1973 Pontiac Grand Prix which was some of the competition for the sport-luxury market in that day--it was another big sled, mine had power windows and a factory 8-track, buckets and console, which I bought in 1979 and had it for 7 years. Anyway, that's one heck of a lot of Detroit iron in one place, but a special classic nonetheless. What a piece of T-Bird history! --Lindy

After all of those plaudits I still believe that any Bird that sits more than two is not a REAL T-BIRD!!
