    Re: White Convertible Top

""" Jerry, is this the look you want? Back in the 50s and 60s most all red convertibles came with a white top. I love the look. ""

Guess you don't have any trouble finding your bird at a TBN event Ron ?

A white soft top would look just dandy on a TBird Blue........

Black fades over time. White gets a bit dingy over time. Seems like a trade-off and a matter of personal preference.

Our '70 XL Convertible originally came with a black top, but I always thought the white replacement was a huge improvement. We could get a near new look by cleaning it with Goop Hand Cleaner and a brush, even after 6 or 8 years of constant use and no garage for storage.

I agree, I like the white top on a red car.

              Re: White Convertible Top

In the late 1970's, while driving down the NJ Turnpike on the way to work, ice from a 16 wheeler flew off and hit the roof of my 64 Galaxie. I had no idea until I pulled into the toll booth that the ice had torn the roof.

Had a new white top put on, and, a few years later, converted the car into a garage queen.

The top is still on the car, although it is starting to show a small split on one of the seams.

The big problem is that the front bow is rotted out. When they put on a new top, they had to glue it on, and, according to the technician, that's the last top that car will ever get (unless the bow is changed).

With cleaning every few years, top still looks pretty good after 30+ years.

Like you Jerry, we picked up our '66 T'Bird convertible in 1981 and it still has the same white vinyl top on it now and also the same back window. It is by no means a garage queen as we have put 75,000 miles on it since we purchased it. It keeps the rain out when driving or standing outside but the top really belongs in the trunk on any nice warm, sunny day.
