Re: Where did you cruise in your youth?

Peterfurlan Ediron. Nice to see other members from The Bronx, 'cept that I was cruising the Parkway on a Schwinn back then. Hone Ave. between the Parkway and the Esplanade to be exact. St. Claires then moved to LI. Cruised Ally Pond Park, did bad things, now a good grandfather. I remember most of those places, but how 'bout Conti's on Morris Park Ave.?Was and still is the best Boston Cream Pie. Around the corner from Tripletts Pizza. Down the block from Carvel and a little amusement park? Miniature golf?
    And who could forget Freedomland?

Ah, George you forgot the Cow Corner for the 10 cent hamburgers or three for 25 cents, 5 cent fries with ketchup and a penny extra for tartar sauce.

Some of the Iowans on this forum might remember this...
I would frequently visit my grandmother and other family in Iowa City during summers in the '50's and '60's. My cousins would always take us cruising out to the Purple Cow in Coralville. I know Jerry Best remembers it!

While teaching in Dawsonville Ga (home of Bill Elliott), the court house was in the middle of town and there were only two streets. You either sat in your car and watched or you would drive back and forth north and south and east and west. I was there from 70 til 73. We lived in one of Bill's dad's rental houses.

....In the mid 70's (a bit beyond my youth...well...maybe not when I look at there from here) we lived in Vancouver B.C. and to this day, one of our favorite cruises was to do the Chuckanut Drive in Washington on down to Whidbey Island....Great road, picturesque scenery, top down in our '74 Jensen Healey...Love Whidbey Island...Used to scuba dive there often back in the day....

I'm from Detroit. I cruised Telegraph road (far west side) and Woodward Ave. I saw the Silver Bullet, and sat shotgun in my buddy Tom's, Mustang Mach I. Street racing was real, gas was cheap 1969 to 1974, and by the time we were seniors in high school, big block cars were cheap unwanted gas guzzlers that we snapped up as first cars. Once in while a date at a drive in movie. Once in a while spectators at Detroit Dragway.

                    Ah yes, drive in movies.

Freeze in the winter, get eaten alive by the bugs in the summer.

Some drive-ins would give you a little curly thing that you lit to keep away the bugs, and, in the winter, an electric heater which made more noise than it was worth.

Others gave you a tube/vent that blew hot air, but you had to leave your window part way open, which kind of defeated the purpose.

We cruised to Eastside Park Paterson NJ and of course down the shore in my 67 GTO, (4 speed, factory air, I wish I had it back, who new what it would be worth today) and Friday nights we would go to Palisades Park. The radio was on with Murray the K and his submarine races. Taught Susan to drive the 4 speed in Alexanders parking lot Paramus NJ.

Remember Cousin Brucie doing radio shows from Palisades Amusement Park?

The Park boasted having the world's largest salt water pool, way back when.

We hopped a bus and went to the Park after our grammar school graduation in 1956.

I had a '61 Thunderbird back then. and cruised Gratiot Ave. between 9 Mile and 16 Mile Roads. In fact, I still do. The fast cars would do Woodward. You may have read about a little gathering each year out there. What are not as well known are the two cruises held in Eastpoint and Clinton along my old haunt.
