Well folks the mercury hit 50 for the 1st time on a weekend yesterday where I live in CT so I figured it’s time to start getting ready for our 1st show. Birds are still in their bags but did a brake job and re-packed the bearings on my trailer yesterday. For those that store their birds, when do you start spring prep?

Re: When do you Start Spring Preparation
Depends on the weather but usually I do the heavy preparation in late April or early/mid May.
I'm taking her out of storage the end of this month; can't wait! Every year it's almost like taking delivery of a new car as I haven't seen her since the beginning of November.2002 Ford Thunderbird Premium Torch Red partial interior (sold June 2013)

Re: When do you Start Spring Preparation
I tried starting mine the other day and it was dead. I hadn't run it since Thanksgiving, so I jumped it off my pick-up and it started right up. So now everytime I go out to the garage for anything I start it and let it run for about 10 minutes. I don't plan on taking it out yet though, as much as I would like too. I too am concerned about all the salt and gravel still on the roads and don't forget the pot holes. The first time out will be to the car wash and then to my Ford dealer for an oil change and get my battery tested. I leave the hard top on till about June 1st usually. Leroy

Re: When do you Start Spring Preparation
We semi store our bird. Keep it in the 3rd stall and start it at least every two weeks for 15 minutes. Was nice yesterday so took it to dealer for spring oil change and also got a new battery. Never had any problems with the battery but felt 8 year old battery was pushing my luck. Have a wedding to go to in early April so crossing my fingers it might get warm early and can pop the top. First weekend above 60 will give it a bath and buff. Getting ansy for putting some nice weather miles on.Last edited by MidNiteRiders; Mar 7, 2010, 04:18 PM.Mark & Janice Powell

Re: When do you Start Spring Preparation
I always thought that it was a bad practice to let a car idle for a long time. Once in a while, it's OK (I guess), but not repeatedly.
I've read that, even in normal driving, start the car, let the oil circulate for 30 seconds or so (depending on the outside temperature), and then drive at a moderate speed, being real careful at bumps/potholes, until the drivetrain and suspension warm up.
I try to use mine at least once per week even in the winter, unless we really get bombed with snow.2010 Explorer Limited Edition, tri color white, camel interior

Re: When do you Start Spring Preparation
Spring is just a word, not a driving moment. It was hi 30's the other day to mid 40's yesterday--all of these days give way for a top down drive thru the Metro Park System in th Cleveland/ Berea/ Rocky River areas. Turned every head! I only took the car out since the melting snow cleared the roads of salt. I will drive it any clean chance that is given. Banar

Re: When do you Start Spring Preparation
Brake job has been completed, man am I old – been a while since I’ve done a brake job on drum brakes, even my pinky muscle aches. I'm thinking that I need to get the NM out of the bag and start working on the swirls. I won't drive them until after a few good rain storms clean the sand and salt off the roads. Will be ordering the RedLine oil and Wix filters today. Hey Leroy, no BatteryTender?Last edited by Chuck; Mar 8, 2010, 07:29 AM.

Re: When do you Start Spring Preparation
Chuck, No, I've never used one. I think I better get one for next Winter though. I usually get out and start it once in awhile but this year I didn't. Leroy
