Leroy: I believe they do extend the life of the battery. I've been using them for the past 35 years.

With the top still on, I will wash/wax the car before going topless, probably next week. I like to store the top waxed during the summer. Then I will watch the weather for the time to take the top off. Forecast is for some rain around here until April this year. We need the water here in CA so can't complain too much.

Just returned from sunny warm tropical africa, couldn't stop thinking of how nice it would be to get out and cruise - roads are terrible but weather was perfect - can't wait until spring/summer!

Finally uncovered the thunderbird and jumped the battery. Started right up - let it run for awhile and then drove down to Sonic for some tea. Top comes off next weekend, and then I need to get it waxed and ready for Thunder Blues.

Took it out last week. I wait until the street sweepers clean up my town. Usually the second week in March. Will start full detail next weekend. Usually takes me two weekendsto really get the bird ready forthe cruisin season

Washed it and got it ready last night, then drove it to church today. Our 1 mile of gravel road was finally dry enough to take it out and keep it clean.

Re: When do you Start Spring Preparation

Very little Spring preparation for me to do, as the Bird isn't driven very often and sits under cover in the garage all the time. I detail her each time I drive her and "put her away," so she's always clean and ready to go whenever I'm ready for a drive. Took the hard top off and took her out for a top-down drive for the first time Saturday, and it felt GREAT!!

Mine are still in their bags. I've been doing some work around the house and haven't started messing with them yet. I have cinder block wall to build this coming weekend, maybe after that. Its raining like crazy here today so the salt dust should be gone by this weekend

Well Bird #1 (the DSB) has risen from its winter slumber, got a fresh oil pan of Red Line and went out for her 2010 maiden voyage yesterday evening. It's like having a new car every year.

Re: When do you Start Spring Preparation

My hard top came off on Sunday. Minor incident, relatives that helped were virgins to the process and my Uncle - put his side down on the metal part of the stand and then scraped it across the arm to the rubber end. A bit of Merlot paint was left on the stand - but that will have to wait until a later date. I could hardly make an issue out of it when they were just trying to help. I do think that any damage is limited to the bottom edge, so touch up paint should work.

But this led me to think - has anyone added some type of cushioning / wrapping to the metal arms on the stand? That would have avoided this mishap. I even thought about wrapping black duct tape around it.

                        Vickie,

That would be easy to do as you can get foam pipe wrap in any plumbing department of Home Depot or Lowes or any hardware store. Good Idea.

Re: When do you Start Spring Preparation

Last Saturday we had to drive to Reading, Pa from home to get new controllers for out out-door fans. We planned all week to take the T-bird out for a ride. Took the cover off, disconnected the battery tender and she fired up and made the Borlas purrrrrrr. We stopped for breakfast at our local spot and when we hit the road the top came off and stayed off all day. What a beautiful day! After picking up the part, we hit three wineries via all back roads. Love the new Tom-Tom...

I like that idea & I know exactly what you are talking about. That would be a great thing for any of us that are using the hard top stand.

No to just get that lift installed - oh the projects that need to be done.
