Re: To Mod or not to Mod

I added the CAI and was thinking about Borla's but I like the quite cruising sound .The CAI makes a nice growl when stepping on the gas

Well add another happy Borla owner to the list. I've had mine 7 years now. I never regretted the expense (back then they were about $625.00). Fellow owner/friends of mine have made different modifications and they are happy as well. It just depends on the sound you are looking for. To me the Borla has a very unique sound that is not too loud, more of a rumble.

No disrespect to anyone that likes the Borla sound, but the TBird is a blvd cruiser, not a Corvette.

At 67, I'm an "old" drag racer and car nut since the early 50's/60's, but I believe in walking softly and carrying a big stick. (I used to love opening up the exhaust pipes on my 57 BelAir and riding around town Sunday night with my racing class (H/PS) still chalked on my windows.)

I'd rather people look at my car and say "now, that's class" rather than hearing a loud exhaust and wonder where the Mustang GT went.

But, that's just my opinion. It's your car, do what you wish.

I just got Borlas and like the sound. Kept the old system. Figured if my wife made me, I could put the stocks back on and get at least half my money back from the borlas. Yea, I'm slightly henpecked.

The answer is do both. Buy 2 birds, keep 1 stock, mod the heck out of the other. I can tell ya though, the mod bug has bitten and I’ve been close a couple of times on pulling the trigger on a CAI and Borla exhaust system for the NM. Seriously though, I think its personal preference, I like tinkering. I look at my DSB and say to myself “I wonder what that would look like chromed” or “I wonder what chromed windshield wipers would look like”. It is going to be hard for me to leave the NM stock, I’m now at “I wonder what that would look like on the NM”

I have the K&N cold air intake and the Borla system and love it,,,some days I think how many more cars would have FORD sold if it came from the factory with a little more rumbel like mine has now. I have said the Borla and K&N are not loud but put your right foot down and well there is Thunder in my Thunder Bird.

Not "hen-pecked" - SMART for several reasons.

Re: To Mod or not to Mod

I've got both CAI and Borla exhaust. If you live near a highway like I-696, you will love the upgrades. This car is fun and really sounds wild in the higher reves above 4,000. Punched it at 70 mph and saw triple digits before I realized I was going that fast, so the performance is there up high. Also, above 4,000 the pipes really start to sing. It's almost scarry. My other car is a '94 Mustang GT 5.0 convertible with a five speed stick, and the Thunderbird sounds better than the Mustang. I am now going to put Magnaflows on the Mustang so that the old boy dosen't feel embarrased any more.
