    Re: NEW EXHAUST TIPS

I would like to see how and were the hanger is connected. Also if I may suggest you might want to spray those welds with Galvacoat, as those will be the first place rust will start if he welded to the muffler, unless the muffler is Stainless Steel and your welder used SS welding rod. They look nice. Leroy

Leroy, is Galvacoat available at any of the building supply stores or do I have to get it at an auto supply store? The hanger was fabricated to slip into the original rubber hanger and then welded to the new exhaust tip.

        Re: NEW EXHAUST TIPS

Sandman, I bought a can at our local Ace Hardware. It's with all the other spray paints. It's pricey, about $12.00 a can, but it's good stuff. I have a Cat-Back duel exhaust set up on my GMC Z-71 4x4. I had a local muffler shop do it, they put a Y pipe in after the Cat, then two glass packs and bend new pipes out to the rear bumper with SS slash cut tips, and all new hangers. The welds burn away the galvanizing on the pipes and mufflers and in this climate I'm in, that's the first place were rust will start. Leroy

Leroy, thanks for the tip. Is the Galvacoat clear, silver or some other color when applied. Also, does it have to be re-applied after some time?

I have the same tips as Leroy, but I used a chop saw and cut them off at the bottom of the bevel, it just made them a little shorter, fit great////////////////

              Ron

Those are really nice exhaust tips. They are an improvement.

I was kind of surprised to find that there wasn't some red accents on them. Just kidding!

                Re: NEW EXHAUST TIPS

The Galvacoat looks like a light grey primer when it dries. So far I've just put it on once, but I've still got plenty left so I might spray those welds again before next Winter. As far as cutting the tips I have goes, I did think about it when I first put them on, I though they might be just a bit too long but to shorten them, I would have to cut the slash cut end and if I did that, I would loose the " PYPES " logo etched on each tip. So they've been on my car for about 18 months now and no one has ever suggested that they're too long. Leroy

Leroy, if I'm reading correct you slipped the new tips over the stock chrome tips and set them with a screw. Thanks Ed

Ed, That's right they slip right over the stock tips. I cleaned the stock tips good first and sprayed a little WD-40 on them to be sure I got the new ones on as far as I could. I drilled right through the walls of both tips were they overlap and put in a SS sheet metal screw to keep them in place. It as easy. Leroy

After seeing Ron (Sandman)'s flared exhaust tips pictures in post no. 14, I ''pm''ed him asking where he got them...He promptly replied to me and was very helpful putting me in contact with his friend Dennis (Handyman) who took a lot of his own time and introduced me to Dave at the Meineke muffler shop in Ft.Myers FL. After explaining that I had only three days left in Florida before going back to Canada, Dave gave me an appointment this afternoon to do the installation (which took approximately an hour) the same way he did both Ron and Dennis' cars and the final result is perfect!
Unfortunately, I cannot post pictures at the moment as I'm not using my computer, but I definitely will do so, once I'm back home next weekend. (Maybe in the meantime that Dennis will post some, as he took several while Dave was working on my car...?...)
A big thank you to both Ron and Dennis and Dave...!
                        Claude.
