What are your thoughts on these mods?

Hi

While my car was being repainted, a few things occurred to me that might seem like improvements. I did not make any changes, but had a few in mind. What do you folks think of these mods for an '02?

1) replacing the hash mark insert with the '05 Thunderbird anniversary insert in the front fenders? It would cost over $100 to do this change.

2) adding the V-8 emblems? This would be cheap.

3) changing the center caps to the '04 white striped version (premium wheels)? Not sure if these center caps can be purchased from Ford. Probably not cheap if they are available.

I know this would detract from originality, and it would add to the cost of the car, but it seems like something to consider.

I like the HASH marks better!

Go with the 16 spoke micro machined!

Bruce, I did the last two mods to my car back in 2004, love the look. If you want to change your center caps to the white hoop style, it's not just the caps, you'll need to get 04-05 wheels also, those center caps will not fit 02-03 wheels. #1 would look good on any year, you can't go wrong there.

Bruce, I took the anniversary blades off my car and replaced them with the hash marks. As for adding pieces like v8 emblems think clean, I decked my car body and shaved the door handles. The only emblems on the exterior of my car are the hub covers, I painted the birds black.

Go with the Niemen Marcus wheels, I've yet to see a bird that I didn't like them on - no clue why Ford didn't offer them as at least an option. Not sure if you are looking for different wheels to put on your '02 but remember the '04 - '05 center caps won't fit stock '02 - '03 wheels

We have done all three mods you list, plus the '05 Cashmere hood scoop (chrome) to our Thunderbird Blue '02. It is currently back on the original wheels with new booties (Perelli P Zero's). We have a set of '04 wheels and the premium wheels from our Inca Gold '05 and a set of '02 Deluxe wheels, the '05 is on aftermarket 18" wheels now.
A few personal mods are a nice way to make the car your own.
Keep all the take off parts and you can make it back original in no time.

Bruce, the V8 emblems are a nice mod - different styles to choose from too.

Another way to enhance the hash mark insert is to add 1/8" chrome molding along the lower perimeter - it brings out the chrome touch on the inserts even more.

What some are referring to as hash marks are actually supposed to be louvers. A hash mark is a sewn on stripe worn by Navy and Marine enlisted men and women on their uniforms on each forearm below the rank. Each stripe represents 4 years of service. Leroy

Our fender thing-ies are called many names. I think a most common term is actually "chevron".

I did not know that the '02-03 premium wheels were much different from the '04. Guess, I won't be switching center caps.

I like my premium wheels. They are a nice stock item. If they were like my Riviera, in which the stock wheels are horrible, then I would do something.

I like the NM wheels, and they are nice touch, but am guessing I might have to mortgage the house to buy them.

I am thinking most of my mod money was spent on the paint job.

Something I would like to see more of on my car is the blue accent which is found on the hood and trunk trim pieces, but nowhere else. I think the center caps would be a good spot for some more blue accent.

Bunny Lou has painted his center cap "wings" with the T-Bird blue and it looks great. I plan to have him do it to mine soon, too.
