  • Color Choices/Changes

Taking this off another post here I am going to ask the question, What colors would you have liked Ford to do in our Birds.

Don't get me wrong, I love my 02 Thunderbird Blue, BUT, given the choice I would have picked a different retro color. Those of us that were here on the ground floor of this back in 2001 Ford had ask on their site what retro color you would like for the 02's. The Judge and I would have liked to see an updated color of a Metallic Dusty Rose with either a black or white soft top along with the full interior that Ford made available at the time, that's what we voted for on their site. Well that didn't happen and we didn't place our order until they came out with the Thunderbird Blue, the last color for that year.

Now, what retro colors or any color would you have liked Ford to offer on the Retro T-Bird. My second color of choice at the time, not retro and never offered would have been a Dark Emerald Green Metallic.

What would have been your choice ?

    Spence:

I would have liked to see them continue Inspiration Yellow. I have always liked the 'soft' yellow of the '02. In fact, I have toyed with the idea of doing my Bronze over in Inspiration Yellow as I think it would look good with the sand and black interior.

I agree with you that a darker emerald green shade would also have been an nice addition.

I would like to see the retro bird in "Ember Glo",
a 1965 limited edition color. I think it would look
nice with the saddle tan interior and top.
        Just my opinion.

I too love my color combo, but when Jim Youngs showed us the proposed Dark Cherry Metallic and the Deep Navy Metallic with the sand interior - both of those looked absolutely fantastic. I do believe that either of those with the dark deep color and added sparkle would have really set the birds design off.

Repainting one of these cars another color would be very expensive to do right, if you could do it right. You would have to practically disassemble the whole car, paint it, then reassemble it. I don't think there's a color that would be worth it. Just love it the way it is. Leroy

                  Re: Color Choices/Changes

I would have loved a very "pale" yellow version for the Retrobird (paler than Inspiration Yellow)... I remember the mid to later 70's colour of the Cadillac Eldorados with a distinctive yellow, accented with yellow leather interiors. Very eye-catching, and I think it would have worked with our Retrobirds. White soft top, of course, with wires and white whites... but I am rather biased...

Agreed!...A dark emerald green metallic with a WHITE leather interior would've been gorgeous!...The only thing lesf to add would be whitewall tires...
I remember back in '72, my father bought a white Lincoln Mark IV that had an all white leather interior (only the dash and carpets were black) and it was beautiful!...Maybe someone on this site could "photoshop" one?...

I agree with Dizzbe. The dark cherry metallic shown by Jim Youngs at Thunder Fever was spectacular. A medium green metallic would also be nice.

Galpin did a whole series of custom colors, and yes he did remove the body panels to repaint them.
