The Judge and I would have liked to see an updated color of a Metallic Dusty Rose with either a black or white soft top along with the full interior that Ford made available at the time, that's what we voted for on their site. Well that didn't happen and we didn't place our order until they came out with the Thunderbird Blue, the last color for that year.
The Dusk Rose has been in the back of my mind for several years as the color I would like to repaint my PCR before giving it to my granddaughter.
RECENT DEVELOPMENTS FORCE A "MUST SELL" SITUATION. AM REDUCING PRICE BY $60,000. to $399,000.-FAR BELOW WHAT I WANTED, AND DRASTICALLY BELOW MY COST TO BUILD. She is one of the MOST BEAUTIFUL and UNIQUE STREET RODS EVER. I GUARANTY THAT if you "Show 'N Tell" The ZZ RIDER, YOU WILL DRAW CROWDS, FANS, and IMMENSE PERSONAL PLEASURE WHEREVER YOU SHOW HER. 3/5/10...Disregard listed price. Health declining/must sell...MAKE OFFER !!!(the early bird, steals the prize)
I really have no issues with the paint colors but I would have liked to have seen more top and interior choices. It would have been nice to have had sand and/or white interior and top choices across all 4 model years in my opinion.
Way back in '98 I special ordered a Ford Ranger in Autumn Orange. It was also known as Bright Amber and maybe a couple of other names. Truely an amazing color - a copperish metalic. I could see it as a viable color for the T-Bird. I could also see the Velocity Red from Mazda - a tri-coat red metalic. Basically I like stop-you-in-your-tracks colors with a heavy metalic content. They make you look at the car and how the lines work and how it presents itself. I also kind of like the Merlot, even if its a little darker than I usually go.
I would have loved a very "pale" yellow version for the Retrobird (paler than Inspiration Yellow)... I remember the mid to later 70's colour of the Cadillac Eldorados with a distinctive yellow, accented with yellow leather interiors. Very eye-catching, and I think it would have worked with our Retrobirds. White soft top, of course, with wires and white whites... but I am rather biased...
WE GOT TO SEE THE DIFFERENCE IN THE IY AND THE IG THIS PAST WEEKEND. THE INCA GOLD IS PALER IN THE SUN.
Bird is the word..... Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin to slit throats. H. L. Mencken US editor (1880 - 1956)
Back in 1964, one of the mechanics at my family's Ford dealership wanted a four door Galaxie 500 XL in a coral color offered only on Thunderbirds. My dad called the assembly plant and they were glad to comply. That was many years ago and who knows if this is even possible now.

There were no atheists in the foxholes.
Repainting one of these cars another color would be very expensive to do right, if you could do it right. You would have to practically disassemble the whole car, paint it, then reassemble it. I don't think there's a color that would be worth it. Just love it the way it is. Leroy
$2,700 is the quote from the local shop that I trust. (they clear coated the entire car for me last year).
That includes taking all the trim, bumper covers, grille, mirrors, etc. off the car and also painting inside door jambs, underhood, trunk, etc.
Like I said I am toying with the idea. Sure, there is no way the change would be worth it if I planned to get my money out of the car, but I don't plan to.
Anyone can own an original but only I can own my personal version.
I would like to have seen the original T-Bird Blue without the metalic.
I've been in conversation lately with a designer who worked on the Tbird during pre-production days. This is what he had to say about the Thunderbird blue color on the 02:
...the "Thunderbird Blue" color. We took the idea of a modern interpretation of the old T-Bird Blue and made it metallic/pearl...
and for anyone with the Inca Gold color, I have some interesting comments he made about that color.
