Ash Tray colors

The width and depth of the cup holders are slightly different but the ash tray cups do fit nicely in both.

As for their colors, black for the 2003s to 2005s but the color of the 02 matches the interior of the 02 so it's slightly greyer than the later years. Otherwise, they're all the same style.

My 02 looks like they took a black ash tray cup and sprayed the upper portions and lid a lighter "gray" than the black plastic. The flash of the camera shows the difference of color better than the natural light. The later black ash tray cup has also been sprayed a matte black finish but not on the sides, just the top and rim.

Now - why the cashmere didn't get a stone colored ashtray, I don't know, but I can surmise as the ashtray/coin cup has always been listed as an accessory to the car, not an option, yet it came in ALL the t-birds.

Here is the brochure that shows the various parts of the Ford ashtray. Part #A actually has 2 parts. Somehow, part of #A fell off and now... it fits. Seems that the vertical ridges shown in the picture are a separate part to be removed, if used in our cars.

Of course... I could never figure out how to do it. All I can think is that the ashtray fell in my basement, and the piece fell off "somewhere" that eludes me.

End of story.

Dot, I think what he is saying is that part B fits on the bottom of part A. That's why it wouldn't fit in the car holder. These two parts pull apart and then part A will fit in the car and your then left with part B as an extra part.

At least that's what I'm getting out of this.

You're both on the right track. Now...My "A" part looks similar to the picture shown, but without those vertical 3 ridges. It had them before the mysterious "fall" and they caused the interference. Now, "A" fits.

The "B" and "C" are still in the packaging as they are flexible rubber.

Some day, I am going to figure out what happened to that piece of plastic with the ridges that attaches to the "A" cup and take a picture!!

And by the way, the person who measured the 2 cup holder sizes is right. The front one is slightly smaller than the back one. The "A" cup fits looser in the back cupholder.

Wow... this post is drifting into the "too much detail for me"... but at least now we have answered the question of the "wrong" fit on the universal Ford ashtray for the 2005 Birds.
