  • Where would I find my soft boot cover?

Just bought my 2004 T-Bird. I haven't had the top off yet, but I can see the snaps and there isn't any cover snapped on. So could it still be under the hard cover. It's not in the trunk. Dealer couldn't help. The window sticker says that the car did have one. Any help before I recruit someone to help me lift the top would be appreciated. The Hard top stand has two pins to hold it in place but one set on the right side is missing, any ideas? Thanks guys, P.S. Love the Bird!

Sometimes the former owner will put it somewhere in their and just forget about it.

I think what he's saying is . . . the boot is most likely in the former owner's basement / garage / attic / tool shed / etc. See if your dealer can locate them and check. It will be worth the effort - replacements are not cheap or easy. (What is under the shelf attached to the hard top? The soft top. Ain't no more room under there.)
      Oh, and welcome aboard.

James - try to track down the original owner. They obviously forgot to put it in the trunk before selling it. It does not stow inside under the hardtop. Good luck, because the boot covers are hard to come by.

Oooops - I see Sealy said it all before I hit 'post'!

Use a screw or nail as a substitute for the missing pin on the stand. You only need it to stop the leg from folding. It probably won't with the top on, but don't take a chance.

Try removing the right side tube--the pin is a hair pin shaped stainless steel spring and sometimes becomes dislodged and disappears inside the tube. Both of mine were 'missing' too but were still inside, after all.

The dealer that I bought my bird from was no help in finding missing items. My owners manual and the hardtop removal tool were missing. For just about anything you may need, try thunderbirdconcepts.com (TBC). You can get an aftermarket boot from them, but it will cost you. If you do, get the good one that Arron recommends. If you have some extra money, there are two or three hard cover designs that may be a beautiful addition to your car. TBC has one and you can find another supplier on Dot's site, portholeauthority.com.

Re: Where would I find my soft boot cover?

I have two genuine Ford Tbird Soft Boots (Toneau covers) that snap on. One is the 2002 and the other one is the 2003-5 version that is softer and can be roled up to fit the small compartment in the trunk. I used the 2003-5 version once. I decided to keep the 2002 version and sell the 2003-5 version that was optional equipment. Since it was optional, your 2004 Tbird may never have had the Boot.
The 2003-5 boot I have, is like new. Anyone intersted, make me an offer. I could send pictures.

You were right on the money, got it fixed in five minutes, unfortunately my soft boot cover wasn't in there.

Go on E-Bay search Item 260595433023 $129.99 free shipping. This is not
original equipment boot but doesn't look bad. As far as I'm concerned the
original boot is nothing to write home to mother about.

I had same exact situation except my dealer foud mine. I had searced and found Ford still has them but price varies drastically One was $1075 and one was $675. I debated wheter to buy even at 675 but found mine You will likely use it very little but it does complete the car.

As I've written before I bought mine thru e-bay (sand) put it on once for photo's and it's rolled up in a closet. If I ever sell the bird it may go back on e-bay or depending on the deal to the owner. If traded in it would go on e-bay as most dealers aren't giving any more for it and don't have a clue about them.

Any good upholstery shop sould be able to make one and a much better one then what came with the car.

I put my boot on only occasionally. That way I can drop the convertible top when ever I want, then put it back up quickly as I need.
