How do you guys and gals feel about pin stripes on your ride? I go back a long way and have never bought a new car without insisting on painted pin stripes. even my wifes Lexus has double stripes in two colors . very fine stripes that don't jump out at you, but are nevertheless there. Opinions anyone? cberndt1

      Re: pin stripes

      Charles,
I used to have them on most of my cars in the 80s and early 90s. I gave them up for several reasons. Mine were mostly of the tape kind (I can't remember if I ever had any painted on and some cars may have come from the factory with them), and they always seemed to fade, get brittle, get pulled loose or nicked, but most of all they gathered the wax at their edge and that residue turned white and was a pain to remove. They did just not seem worth the trouble to me. I still think they look good on some cars.

        Re: pin stripes

I am off topic on this post but the way to eliminate white residue in seams, along tape pinstripes, etc is to follow the detailing habits of Bunny Lou. Don't use wax. Use detailer. I live by Bunny's advice and have not used wax in five years. Detail about once a month and you will have a beautiful residue free shine. (and it's much much easier than old fashioned wax)

Charles, I had mine painted on. Wanted the gold color to match the gold on the Vouge tires. Just one line ,nothing flashy, just subtle. I'm happy with the look.Took the guy less than 30 min. to complete.

            Re: pin stripes

On my Merlot I have a double gold painted strip, it makes it look finished IMO. My Caddy has a gold and black painted strip. Last service call on the Caddy I met there striper , nice guy stop to show me his portfoilo. Go with painted if you get the right person to do it. My suggestion is to check the higher end cars for there striper.

              Re: pin stripes

I've had some teal and white pinstripes done on my 'Bird back in '06 by a friend of Dino (blue Heaven) and never regretted it. They're perfectly straight as the guy who did them also does all the new cars at a Cadillac dealer in CT...a real artist.

                  Re: pin stripes

Charley as said above pin stripping done well is beautiful. Unfortunality some do not have it done tastefully and put too many little swirls, and designs into the ends which may destract rather than compliment the car. I feel if not over done it will really add to the lines of our Birds. Sandman and 2Fast4You are good examples of it done
tastefully and really enhence the look of the Birds. Bunny Lou

                    Re: pin stripes

I could'nt agree more. I like the gold with Merlot and teal & white on t-bird blue, also gold on red. good jobs. I guess stripes went the way of white walls . My 78 bird had painted red stripes over dove grey and looked as good as the day I picked it up from the dealer. I sold it to buy my 2002 in 2004.

I guess that is one of the first things I did with my triple black 02 just after I purchased it in 05.

It is just a matter of choice, but as was mentioned when you start putting them on the trunk or the hood then you have probably gone too far.

Yet again, it's your car do with it as you wish.

                      Personally, I like them!

                        ED,
I also have a Merlot. Do you have a picture of the stripes and do you remember about how much you paid?
                        Thanks, Mike

I'm also thinking of adding either a single or dual pinstripe(s) to the side of my Torch Red 2002. Any color suggestions?

                          Thanks

                            Re: pin stripes

I actually had my second bird stripped today. Have a guy that does beautiful free hand pinstriping. He did my other bird as well. Both of my cars are black. Today we did a really soft blue/gray stipe that does not jump out of you but says: Hey I really like these retrobirds and want just a little custom touch to mine. By the way, I love the red bird I(Sandman) with the gold to match the vogue tires. That is striking. I also added just a little flourish on the trunk and hood. I think it is a matter of personal taste. I also think my taste is good.... why else would I gravitate to these birds?

I would go with Black which would match your interrior black. Either single or double line would look great on your red beauty. Conservative, tasteful, but elegant and would not destract from the lines of the car. Oh I also think a black hardtop would really set off your car look. Lou
