    Re: pin stripes

Our bird has a double stripe of saddle/gold. It is tape and was done by the dealer when it was new, so far no problems.

      Re: pin stripes

Any good pinstriper would be able match up a color from any item you have. I had the gold stripe on my Vouge tires matched exactly for the paint on the stripe. I don't think there would be any problem matching the aqua. Now, tape is a different story.

I had a double pinstripe painted on the Inca (top/black and bottom/turquise).

I want something simple but complimentary. Where I have an all black car (inside & out) I was thinking of a deep red stripe. I'm also toying with the idea of new tires and I like the look of the Vogue tires with the white wall and the thin orange stripe so maybe an orange stripe would be nice. Suggestions anyone?

If you are thinking of going with Vogue Tyres, Wait till you have them to stripe your car. The color is not yellow or orange. It's a combination of both. You may not like that color as a stripe on the car. I thought of doing the same thing till I put on the Vogues, then I went with Sand to match the seats. Glad I waited!

I put Red on my Cashmere. Have received many compliments. I actually put tape stripes on mine as I was not sure if I would like the stripe or not, and decided if I liked it I would have them painted on. Actually did them myself so the cost was literally about $6.00 for the tape. Was a cheap way to experiment. Several years later and the tape is holding up fine, even in the South Florida heat. If or when I have problems, I will have them painted.

Bradford, the red on cashmere is a great contrast. Looks really good. I also like the double stripe and where it is positioned. Well done.

Bradford, That looks pretty good, I might try that myself. Are there any trade secrets on doing it right and keeping it straight? Leroy

Leroy, It was purely a experiment and I was surprised at how easy it was. I figured, for the minimal cost of the tape I could afford to screw up. I guess the main thing would be to clean the surface good, I followed the line one the car, pulled the tape out at a good length to get it straight, and DO NOT stretch it, if you do, the adhesive and the vinyl tape tend to seperate, use a sharp single sided razor to cut where needed at door, fender edges etc. Also, if you check online, 3M Corp sells a hugh variety of tape stripes, wide and thin, double thin, as well as combination colors where you have 2 colors. Online shows all the combinations they have. A good site to see all colors and combinations is R&E Paint Supply and check out the Pinstripe Tape Color Card.

Jerry, no other additional saddle accents. I posted a couple close ups on my gallery.

My '04 PCR has a dual gray stripe I assumed was factory. They are subtle but really make a difference. Had a friend back in late 50's who would hang out at local drive in restaraunts and pin stripe cars He made a hundred bucks a night in just a few hours. A straight stipe down the side took less than 5 mins and was really something to watch. That is a talent you either have or don't, but I never heard of any body who learned to do it.

Most every self-respecting racetrack has a character hanging around who looks real seedy but has that unique talent. Most of them go by "Shaky Jake".

Not pin stripes, but on my bronze Bird, chrome strips pick up the chrome windshield frame, wheels, and hood scoop strip nicely. The side trim set from TBird Concepts also includes spears to go in front of the vents or blades, but they didn't appeal to me.

I'm surprised Ken Clayton (ChromeDome) hasn't weighed in yet. His car looks fantastic, especially in person and the pinstriping is definately not just a couple of stripes running along the sides of the car. In any case it's a personal choice like everything else we do to our cars. For one, I have no pinstriping, I just like the solid black look.
