Makes sense to me.

Ford has to screw up the Thunderbird design for a few years before coming to it's senses and produce a real Boulevard Cruiser again.

The cycle will repeat again.

They should have gone ahead with the "Sport Roadster" that they showed early in the Retro years, part of the "living legends 'tour. A nice fitting tonneau that incorporated the headrests. Super Charger under the hood as well.
