  • Rear Bumper Trim Part?

My '05 just came out of the Ford dealership garage; However, much to my chagrin, with a warped plastic-chrome piece over the license plate area of the rear bumper. Evidentally someone must have parked against it, or it againt another car. Have three questions for anyone in the know: 1.) What is the FoMoCo replacement part number? 2.) What is the removal and installation procedure? 3.) Can the job be done ala "Do it yourself?"

You can search above for part numbers and then shop around for best price.
The trim is held on by several bolts around the plate area. When I installed my back up sensors, I was able to gain limited access to that area by removing the bumper anchors under the bumper and in the trunk. Space is limited, so you may not have enough room to get to all the bolts.

If your Ford dealer did it, however, you should be talking to him about the repair.
    Good luck!

Any pics, further info, part numbers, etc.????

I have an '04 crash book that shows license plate housing (which includes the chrome surround). Labor is 1.7 hours which includes removing and replacing the rear bumper cover. The parts price six years ago was $221.37.

                  Re: Rear Bumper Trim Part?

UPDATE: The part is still available from FoMoCo (part No. 1W6Z17B390AA), price: $246.15 + tax. The only way the part comes, is the chrome-trim together with the black license-plate mount. Also needed the lamp assembly above the rear license plate (part No. F8VZ13550BA), price $29.85 + tax. I paid for parts (as a good-will, good relations gesture), but the Ford dealership is providing the labor, because they were responsible for the damage. The install does require removal of the rear bumper. Thank goodness, many of the parts we need to repair our T-Birds are still available!

Really, really trying not to hijack this thread.

I just bought a new Ranger. Found an Audiovox hitch mount wireless back up sensor. Slides into your hitch and ties into the back up lights. Looks like an add on step. Receiver plugs into the cigarette lighter or permanent mounts behind the dash. It just beeps - no read out. I originally got it from etrailer for under a $100, but can't find it on their site now. Shop around, there are a couple of brands. Ford sells one in their parts department, as well.
