  • AC Compressor

Had my oil changed at the Ford dealer a few weeks ago and soon noticed a very small drip of oil under the engine where the oil plug would be. Finally went back to Ford to have them check to see if perhaps the oil drain plug was leaking. Well they came back to me saying that I needed a new AC compressor to the tune of $950. I told them that I had an extended warranty and they checked and sure enough with my 0 deductable the job will cost me 0! I'm bringing the car back Thursday but I never go there assuming what they say to be accurate...we'll see.

Also of note is that the AC compressor was already replace by the previous owner @ 14,500 miles and I only have 19,500 miles. What's up with that!!

      Re: AC Compressor

Gary.....It could have failed from lack of use. For the good of the system be sure to run your air for at least 20 minutes each month. This will keep all of your seals in good shape to prevent leaks.

Ron: Yes, that's Sam Galloway's dealership. They've been pretty good with me thus far but I've never had any difficult issues to deal with.

Also, I drive the car about 200 miles a month, it never sits more then two weeks without running and here in SWFL every time we go out it's AC time.

As a matter of fact, ironically, today I put the hard top on for the summer. Just the opposite of you folks up north. It's just to hot to have it down, even with the AC full blast.

....I had a little drip that gathered around that area....turns out it was the oil pan gasket....I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'.....as I harbour much dealership contempt.....

Amen to the heat, but I just put up the ragtop and the A/C works fine. I suspect you JUST want to show off your hard top!

              Re: AC Compressor

FYI the a/c it is not near the oil drain plug. A/c compressure is on front of the motor behind the drivers tire the oil drain plug is on back of motor pass side.
My a/c completely quit two years ago shop told me compressure needed to be replaced, had seal leaking, so I figured what the heck put two cans of freon with stop leak in the system it has worked fine since. I know yours is under extened warrenty and the fix is near free but if not this is worth a try.

Actually we almost always as hot as you up here with LOTS of humidity. Best top down time is dusk.

                  Re: AC Compressor

Brought the car in early yesterday for the compressor repair thinking I'd have it back by early afternoon. Get a call at 3:30 pm that they need to keep the car overnight because there's a bolt that is frozen and mechanic does'nt want to rush to get it out; would rather soak it overnight.

Compressor was replaced 5,000. miles ago. I have a hard time believeing that bolts would be frozen....cross threaded or broken I'd believe.

Going in this morning to see this bolt...I just don't have a trusting feeling about this service advisor.

                    Re: AC Compressor

Stopped by to see the bolt in question but job was already done. Talked to the mechanic and he said he just wanted to be careful not to break it off and preferred to have it soak for awhile. No one could suggest why the old compressor failed so early other then poor workmanship in its construction.

Anyway cars back and running fine.
