  • A/C Question

I am a relatively new bird owner and have a A/C question. I don't normally use the A/C even here in Florida, but I have noticed that when I turn A/C on, the driver side vents blow cold and sometime the pax side blow warm to hot. Am I not setting the controls properly, or has this happened to others. I usually place control on "auto" and set temp to desired thermostat level. I have a 02 bird. The next time I start the car and run the air, cold blows out both sides. I took it to Ford dealer and they automatically said, it is broken and it needs to be repaired. I don't trust em, since I have no warranty on the car. Advice?

    Alan:
I just plugged in a search, above, for A/C hot and cold, and there's a number of threads that come up that will help you.

Mine does it very occasionally, but after restarting the car, it usually straightens right out.

        Re: A/C Question

Thanks for the responses. I really like hearing that my problem is not the first of its kind. Since the A/C runs cold out both sides about every other time the engine starts, I'll continue to play with it for the time being. Heater Control valves sound like an expensive fix, if in fact that is the issue.

          Re: A/C Question

Allen, I posted in another thread, but I will repeat here.
I had the problem fo half cool and half warm -- I would turn the system off and then back on and the problem would go away.
I changed the cabin air filter and it has been weeks and the half and half problem has not returned.
You may want to change the filter, do not know if it will help or why it it does, but I think it helped mine.

I also have had this issue a couple of times on my 2002. I will be changing the cabin air filter next to see if that solves it. When I stopped by a Ford dealer service department both sides were blowing out 30 degree cooler air than the outside temp... The dealer told me it doesn't get better than that.

              Re: A/C Question

Filter change will not correct the problem. There's no correlation between a dirty filter and A/C variances between left and right sides of the car.

Your heater control valve is acting up and will need replacement soon.

Cost me $600 to get mine changed on my wife's Lincoln LS. Problem was corrected.

You may find a more cost effective dealer.
